This study aims to investigate the implementation of the Practice Assessment of Light Vehicle Chassis and Powertrain Maintenance (LVCPM) in Vocational High Schools (VHSs). This is a descriptive evaluative study in which the data were collected from 28 teachers teaching practicum of LVCPM subject at 14 partners VHSs. The data in this study were collected through surveys and documentation before being analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of this study show that first, about 82% of the LVCPM practice competencies can be taught at VHSs; thus, the results of the LVCPM practice assessment given by the lecturers cannot represent all competencies stated in the curriculum implemented. Second, the lack of facilities, practicum equipment, and teachers' competencies are the reasons why the practicums of LVCPM are not implemented. Moreover, the students' workload is ludicrously heavy. Third, all teachers make use of performance tests, most teachers (64%) use a combination of performance test and portfolios, a few teachers (21%) use a mix of project and performance tests, and only a small number of teachers (7%) use a combination of the three assessment techniques, namely performance test, projects assessment, and portfolios to evaluate student achievement. Although all teachers use job sheets, not all of them have complete assessment sheets. At last, the obstacles faced by teachers are related to limited competencies and understanding of developing practice assessment instruments that are in accordance with the implemented curriculum, and they think that they are not capable of developing practical assessment tools.

A lightweight component design contributes to the overall optimization of a system to be more effective and efficient. Then, it can lead to the contribution of a carbon footprint reduction. The research aimed to propose a novel lightweight brake lever design for motorcycle applications and numerically investigate its performance by comparing the proposed design with different utilized materials. The subject of the research was an optimized brake lever for motorcycle application. The materials used were aluminum alloy, structural steel, and titanium alloy. A Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis was employed to investigate the proposed brake lever design. Three proposed designs were introduced with the mass reduction in each optimization up to 50,9% of reduced mass. Maximum stress was observed on the most optimized design with a value of 297 MPa. The strain and total deformation were also investigated among the components. In the result, the stress-strain graph shows that the most optimized brake lever experiences the highest stress with the highest strain value. Furthermore, the highest safety factor is achieved with the utilization of titanium alloy, reaching the value of 6,28 for preliminary design and 3,1 for the most optimized component. However, the lightest component can be obtained using aluminum alloy.

The presence of other vehicles, travelling together on the road, highly contributes to the condition on the realistic air flow direction. The position alteration of other vehicles generates different airflow direction which is unpredictable experienced by the vehicle under investigation. It considerably affects the stability of a vehicle having large size of the body. The purpose of the study was to investigate the aerodynamic response of a detailed bus model in overtaking process with the interference of crosswind. Fluidic simulation was performed to investigate the air flow behavior imposed on the bus by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. A scaled bus model was used in the simulation with the different positions representing the buses during the overtaking process. The coefficient X/L was introduced to realize the vehicle position during the overtaking process. The results discussed the alteration of drag force coefficient, lift force coefficient, side force coefficient, during the position on overtaking process. The resulting turbulence kinetic energy around the bus was also discussed by comparing the case without crosswind and when the yaw angle was 30°. The most prominent aerodynamic forces alteration occurs when the overtaking process was at X/L=1. Further explanation about the pressure coefficient at the surface of the bus and the area around the vehicle was investigated at this position. The accuracy of numerical results calculation was verified by comparing the result of simulation and experimental testing of Cd and Cl with the percentage of deviation 0.37% and 2.90% respectively.
