“…Mean platelet volume measurement may yield slightly different results according to the type of automated analyzer used. 25,26 Therefore, the results of the current study need to be confirmed in other studies using different automated analyzers. Control group was not sex matched.…”

“…Ntaios et al emphasized that the higher values of the platelet indices in their study compared to others could be due to a difference in hematology analyzers. Large or giant platelets could be excluded from the platelet count with instruments which use impedance method like coulter STKS [ 6 ] and coulter Gen-S [ 5 ] used by the above studies, but the Sysmex XT2000i and XE2100 series also employ optical fluorescence detection method [ 20 ].…”

“…The MPV is used in the literature in relation to understanding and exploring acquired and inherited thrombocytopenia. Indeed, several studies have stressed the advantages of using the MPV as a marker of the regenerative character, or otherwise, of a case of thrombocytopenia, excluding thrombocytopenia linked to splenic sequestration (Kaito et al, 2005;Bowles et al, 2005;Numbenjapon et al, 2008;Ntaios et al, 2008;Noris et al, 2009;Sangeeta et al (2009), Ntaios et al, 2009. Bowles et al (2005) analysed the platelet parameters of 473 cases of thrombocytopenia and concluded that an MPV > 9.80 fL (measured with the Gen-S Ò , from Beckman Coulter) indicates the possible absence of medullary disease whereas an MPV < 8.10 fL on the other hand indicates a medullary condition.…”
