Evaluation of anti–resistant activity of Auklandia(Saussurea lappa) root against some human pathogens

Abstract: The results demonstrated that the crude ethanolic extract of the Auklandia (Saussurea lappa) root plant has a wide spectrum of activity suggesting that it may be useful in the treatment of infections caused by the above clinical isolates (human pathogens).

“…It was published that S. costus has a good anticancer activity on the tested cell lines (Robinson et al, 2008). The ethanol extract of S. lappa (synonymous S. costus) recorded a wide spectrum antimicrobial activity against some human pathogens (Hasson et al, 2013). In addition, many investigations reported other bioactive properties of S. costus roots such as anti-ulcer, anti-infl ammatory, hepatoprotective, immunomodulator, hypoglycaemic, spasmolytic, anticonvulsant, antidiarrheal and antiviral activity (Zahra et al, 2014Ghasham et al, 2017.…”

“…The combination of Cyperus rotundus, Tinospora cordifolia and SL clinically proved to have an anti-arthritic activity through significant reduction of pain in double-blinded, comparative, parallel clinical trial design [ 209 ]. The SL extracts exhibited other biological activities including anti-diarrheal [ 210 ], antiulcerogenic [ 211 , 212 ], antibacterial [ 213 ], anticancer [ 214 ], anticonvusant [ 212 ], hepatoprotective [ 215 ], antiviral [ 216 ], anti-inflammatory, antioxidant [ 217 ], and anti-arthritic activities. The ethanolic extract of SL at dose levels of 50-400 mg/kg showed potent anti-arthritic activity.…”

“…The results exhibited correlation of dose and sensitivity between the plant extract concentrations and bacterial growth inhibition. The antibacterial activity of this plant may be due to the presence of phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins and terpenoids in the methanolic extracts (54). Hasson et al examined the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of Saussurea lappa root against multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria, including MRSA.…”
