Evaluation of Anti-proliferative Potential and Antioxidant Activity of a Wild Edible Mushroom Macrocybe crassa (Sacc.) Pegler and Lodge

Abstract: Objective: This study aims to quantify the anti-oxidant activity of the methanolic extract of Macrocybe crassa and its anti-proliferative activity on normal and cancer cells. Methods: The anti-oxidant potential of the extract was determined by several in vitro assay system like DPPH radical scavenging activity, superoxide anion scavenging activity, percentage inhibition of lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide (NO) scavenging activity. Anti-proliferative activity was tested by MTT assay on breast cancer cell lin… Show more

“…The percentage of scavenging of DPPH radical increase 10.073±0.8250 % to 61.276±8.286% at concentration range 100 µg/mL to 500 µg/mL (Table 4). The IC 50 value is the particular concentration at which 50% of free radical is scavenged by antioxidant molecule of the extract 5 . The IC 50 value of MEP against the DPPH + free radical was 426.723±17.574 µg/mL (Table 5).…”
