Evaluating Competencies of Graduates in Tourism as a Prerequisite for Future Employability

Abstract: This study attempted to evaluate the differences between bachelor and master requirements in the field of tourism regarding sixteen communication as well as sixteen managerial competencies explored in a wide range of employers in the Czech Republic. The questionnaire survey data were processed using a multivariate approach of the Fisher linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and its partial least squares algorithm (plsLDA) considering two-set cases and the functional relation of both methods depending on a paramet… Show more

“…The results are interpreted for the significance of individual linear combinations as eigenvalues (also covering their share), coefficients of linear combinations for the relations among variables, and score as latent variate plot. In the situation of PLS-LDA for two sets, eigenvectors correspond to mean differences of unit norm variables excepting the case where data are logarithmically transformed (Malec & Kiráľová, 2018). In this study, the partial least squares results are not influenced by the range of possible values due to standardizing the data.…”

“…Similarly, partial least squares analogy of discriminant analysis to encompass differences between the sets was applied in this study. Malec and Kiráľová (2018) describe the considerable transformation in the case of two-set, where such approaches can be considered as an alternative to other regression techniques (Bílková, 2019). The eigenvalues express the significance of individual LVs, coefficients of linear combinations serve to investigate the relational pattern between variables, and the score is the latent variable plot.…”

“…A principal requirement for applying to the Blue Card programme is a contract of employment of at least one year's duration. Other requirements vary depending on the destination country, particular, they include qualification certificates and verifiable work experience (Malec & Kiráľová, 2018;Pisár, Huňady, & Ľapinová, 2018). Regarding which, Slovak requirements include professional qualifications from a reputable university and a salary of at least 1.5 times the average wage in the relevant field (International Organization for Migration, Migration Information Centre, 2019).…”
