Evaluación de la respuesta de isotipos de inmunoglobulina especifica a Leishmania en leishmaniasis tegumentaria Americana

Abstract: Leishmania-specific immunoglobulin subclass response was evaluated in 133 patients infected with Leishmania braziliensis. The indirect immunofluorescent antibody test (IFAT) was employed with amastigotes of L. mexicana amazonensis as antigen. Among the 133 sera obtained at consultation for diagnosis of active lesions, IgM was detected in 54 following absorption with Staphylococcus aureus Cowan strain I, and in 5 sera prior to absorption. IgM reactive with Leishmania antigen was only found in sera from patients… Show more

“…30,31,33,34 The clinical value of positive serology in predicting the ATL recurrence in patients living in endemic areas is not established. 24,35 In the two cases presented, the IIF result was nonreactive despite positive cultures. The IIF results were confirmed by a researcher from another laboratory (Souza WJS, Instituto Oswaldo Cruz).…”

“…The cost of the vector control intervention using the microencapsulated formulation is about 120 US dollars, for an average house with 300–320 square meters. Considering the longer lasting effect, the figure is below the cost of the standard intervention using pyrethroid insecticides, that ranges between 25 and 65 U$ per house [ 42 , 43 ] respectively. Inflation adjusted dollars to a 1999 common base give 85.8, 35.2, 67.5 (calculated through https://cps.ipums.org/cps/cpi99.shtml ) for the microencapsulated formulation, lower and upper extremes of pyrethroid-based intervention, respectively.…”

“…During the development of leishmaniasis the humoral immune response is characterized by an exaggerated reaction accompanied by the production of non‐protector polyclonal globulins, which occurs as a consequence of non‐specific polyclonal activation, just as has been described in other parasitoses (40). This type of response, producing high levels of IgG‐type immunoglobulins, is characteristic of both visceral and diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis (41,42), whereas in other types of leishmaniasis, such as the cutaneous and mucose forms, lower antibody titres are found (43,44).…”
