Étude de la croissance et du développement chez le frêne commun, Fraxinus excelsior, cultivé en conditions contrôlées

Abstract: Under controlled conditions (14 h light : 10 h dark; 27 ± 1 and 19 ± 1 °C), common ashes, Fraxinus excelsior L., display a rhythmic growth. The average duration of the first growth flush is 106 days, followed by a phase of nonlengthening from 9 to 11 months, depending on individuals. This rhythm was materialized in the shoot organization. The end of each growth stage was characterized by progressively shorter internodes and by the presence of scales around the bud. Histological studies reveal that no leaf is p… Show more

“…Vegetative buds begin to swell in early March and open through May, although understorey trees usually begin earlier and can have fully expanded leaves by the beginning of May (Wardle 1961). Ash is determinate and all leaves are preformed in the bud so expansion is rapid and is complete within c. 100 days, with formation of terminal buds in July and no further branch elongation for 9-11 months (Collin, Badot & Millet 1995;Kerr 2002;Kerr & Cahalan 2004). However, in shoots that are physiologically young the buds can continue to form new leaves all through the summer, remaining green and succulent, and lacking protective scales and hairs (Wardle 1961).…”

“…Collin et al (1995) recorded continuous root growth under controlled conditions (14 h light/10 h dark; 27 AE 1 and 19 AE 1 8C). The change in the permeability of ash roots in response to drought has been studied by Wiersum and Harmanny (1983).…”
