Show more

“…In fact, flavonoids protect plant tissues against the harmful effects of solar radiation [ 53 ]. The presence of flavonoids in the four organs of the plant could suggest that the plant has anti-inflammatory properties, and could thus play a positive role in the treatment of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, also perhaps having antitumor properties [ 54 ]. On the other hand, following our results, ethanolic solvents would be able to extract the highest amounts of total flavonoids from Passiflora , Physalis and Solanum .…”

“…The high levels of TAA in some plant parts and the low levels in other parts are related to their chemical compositions, functional groups of major compounds, and polyphenol content [ 54 , 64 , 65 ]. In fact, in Physalis the total polyphenol content in the leaves is twice as much as that in the flowers when applying most of the solvents studied in this research, especially with the decoction method.…”

“…This activity could be due to the presence of polyphenols compounds found in D. benthamianus extracts. Moreover, the work of Evenamede et al (2017) highlighted a correlation between total phenol content and antiradical activity.…”

“…34 On the other hand, the extract is 6 times less rich in phenols than the hydroethanol extract from Cassia sieberiana barks, Caesalpiniaceae with 345.04±3.16 versus 51.19 ± 0.79 AGE/g extract respectively. 35 Total phenol content of a sample is often correlated with its total antioxidant capacity. 36 However, the Folin-Ciacolteu reagent is not specific to phenolic compounds.…”
