Grinding machines is one of the outcomes of the agricultural sector work process mechanization aimed at reducing tedium and drudgery on the workers and improving overall productivity and production. However, the machinery drive component and mechanical energy are associated with noise and vibration, thereby inducing safety and health concerns for the operators. This study assessed and compared the vibro-acoustic characteristics caused by three different types of grinding machines; electric motor (3HP220V2800HD), diesel (R175A) and petrol (GX160) power drive engines used in grinding shops located in Wadata, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State in association with the risk factors to the work environment. The instrumentation design for the grinding machine operations vibro-acoustic characterization was a sound level meter (S844+), a vibrometer (VM-6360), a digital stopwatch (PC-396) and retractable measuring tape (B300-AG). The noise measurements were made at an average seating height of 1.5 m in the operator’s work position and the vibrations on the seat surface of the operator. The data obtained were analysed for noise and vibration occupational risk exposure following the ISO 9612 for acoustics guidelines and ISO 2372 for mechanical vibration and shock. The average mean values for the noise level and vibrations were statistically highest when the diesel power drive engine, followed by the petrol engine, while the electric motor had the least vibro-acoustic effect. In addition, the analysis of the variance test showed that the result obtained for the vibration and noise levels for the three categories of power source drive had p-values less than 0.05, indicating that they are significantly different from zero at a confidence level of 95%. The findings of this study mandated that all operators of the machinery under investigation wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Noise is one of the harmful and stressful physical agents present in the workplace. Research performed with geostatistics to adjust the semivariogram of tractor noise were performed using the Gaussian and spherical model. In this way, the aim was to map the spatial variability of the noise emitted by a power tiller through the sine wave model, besides testing other fitting methods, in order to identify health zones for the workers. The experiment was performed with an agricultural power tiller (10.3 kW) placed in a working regime (1500 rpm), coupled to a brushcutter, and a digital sound level meter to collect noises in points distributed along a regular grid sampling of 2.0 × 2.0 m around the tractor. The spatial dependence of noise was analyzed through semivariogram fitting by different methods and by the wave model to obtain the spatial distribution map interpolated by kriging. It was possible to characterize the structure and the magnitude of the spatial dependence of the noise levels emitted by the tractor, as well as to map the spatial distribution. A maximum noise level of 96.5 dB was observed close to the tractor engine, a value above the limit of 85.0 dB for 8 h of daily exposure (NR-15). Thus, the use of ear protectors is recommended for both the tractor driver and the professionals who support agricultural operation within a radius of 6 m from the emitting source under the conditions studied.

RESUMO:A produção de mandioca possui grande importância nas regiões onde predomina a agricultura familiar em pequenas propriedades rurais, assim a mecanização do cultivo pode promover o incremento de produtividade e otimizar o rendimento operacional. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho de uma plantadora de mandioca em sistema de plantio direto, tracionada por um trator de rabiças, através de dois ensaios de campo. No primeiro ensaio a plantadora foi avaliada em função de três velocidades distintas, obtendo dados de potência exigida pelo conjunto tratorplantadora e por cada parte constituinte da máquina. No segundo ensaio, avaliou-se a plantadora sob duas velocidades, dois modelos de discos de corte, dois modelos de rodas compactadoras e a potência exigida para tracioná-la, além da distribuição longitudinal das plantas de mandioca. Os resultados do primeiro ensaio mostraram que a marcha de menor velocidade exigiu menor potência do trator. Já os resultados do segundo ensaio, demonstraram que a potência exigida do trator variou em função do tipo de disco de corte e de roda compactadora da plantadora. Para a avaliação da distribuição longitudinal, a plantadora avaliada não apresentou diferenças estatísticas na percentagem de espaçamentos aceitáveis, falhos e duplos entre as linhas de plantio. Palavras-chave: manihot esculenta crantz, mecanização, máquina.ABSTRACT: Cassava production is one of the greatest important in regions where family agriculture and small farms are predominant. The aim of this research was to evaluate the performance of a notill cassava planter traced by a tractor of handlebar, through two field trials. In the first trial the planter was evaluated according to three speeds, obtaining data of power required by the tractor-planter assembly and each constituent part of the planter. In the second test, the planter was evaluated under two speeds, two models of cutting discs, two models of compacting wheels and the power required drawing it, besides the longitudinal distribution of cassava. The results of the first test showed that lower speed gear required less tractor power. The results of the second test, however, showed that the required power of the tractor varied according to the type of cutting disc and the compactor wheel of the planter. For the evaluation of longitudinal distribution, the planter evaluated did not present statistical differences in the percentage of acceptable, faulty and double spacing between the planting lines.
