El trastorno por estrés postraumático (TEPT) es una de las consecuencias más frecuentes de la exposición a desastres naturales. El objetivo del estudio es describir la sintomatología postraumática en niños, niñas y adolescentes expuestos a un terremoto el año 2015 en la ciudad de los Vilos, Chile (Región de Coquimbo). Se aplicó la Escala Infantil de Síntomas de Trastorno de Estrés Postraumático (CPSS), un cuestionario de severidad a exposición a un evento traumático y un cuestionario sociodemográfico a 105 participantes de 12 a 16 años, 12 meses después de ocurrido el evento. La tasa total probable de TEPT fue de 29,5% con mayor incidencia en mujeres y niños (as) de menor edad. La exposición al desastre y la percepción de amenazas importantes a su integridad aumenta los niveles de TEPT. Los resultados dan cuenta de la importancia de implementar programas preventivos y diseñar estrategias de intervención que contribuyan a enfrentar las consecuencias de un desastre natural en niños, niñas y adolescentes.

“…Chile is a country where occurs frequent natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, and bushfire; National Commission for Resilience Against Disasters of Natural Origin-CREDEN, 2016), which have an impact in the general population and emergency workers. In recent years, the study of these potential traumatic events and their impact on mental health in the Chilean general population has been increasing (Briceño et al, 2013; Cova et al, 2013; Díaz et al, 2012; Espinoza et al, 2015; Fernandez et al, 2017; Garfin et al, 2014); however, few studies have focused on first responders, especially firefighters. The Peritraumatic Dissociative Experiences Questionnaire (PDEQ) is a widely used self-report measure to assess peritraumatic dissociation (PD). However, this scale has not yet been adapted or validated in Chile. The main objective of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the PDEQ in a sample of 736 Chilean firefighters. Furthermore, this study aimed to clarify the latent structure of PDEQ by comparing three models: the unidimensional model with 10 items (Marmar et al., 1997); the unidimensional model with eight items (Marshall et al., 2002); and the two-factor model (Altered Awareness and Derealization) with eight items (Brooks et al., 2009), as well as to test, to our knowledge for the first time, the measurement invariance across sex for PD. The total sample was divided in two subsamples (S1 and S2) to evaluate the psychometric properties. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to establish the factorial structure of the PDEQ in the first subsample (S1). The three models were analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis in the second subsample (S2). The invariance across sex according to the best-fitted model was also conducted in the S2. Internal consistency and the construct validity were also analyzed. Findings revealed a single dimension in the S1. For confirmatory factor analysis, the two-factor model (Alterred Awareness and Derealization) was the best-fitting model. This model showed strong invariance across sex and presented adequate psychometric properties. The Chilean Spanish PDEQ version reveals to be a valid, reliable, and invariant measure across sex for the Chilean firefighter population.
