Objectives Dark circles under the eyes are a common condition worldwide with multiple treatment options. The aim of this paper is to report a case of dark circles treated with ozone therapy, which showed a very reasonable clinical improvement. Case Report A case of dark circles under the eyes treatment with ozone therapy concentrations and doses was reported. We searched MEDLINE treatment options for dark circles. Literature on this subject is scarce. CARE guidelines have been adopted for this case report. Results Ozone therapy is a really effective biostimulator, that reduces spots and wrinkles. In this case, the patient and healthcare professionals were satisfied with just two ozone therapy sessions. This is an interesting alternative treatment for this common condition. Conclusions Ozone therapy is a safe, inexpensive, and quick treatment for dark circles under the eyes. It can be used alone or in combination with other methods.

Background Despite increasing popularity, the use of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers for the correction of dark under eye shadows remains challenging. Specific guidance on patient assessment is limited. Objectives To develop a stepwise assessment framework for lower eyelid dark shadows to help practitioners to classify patients based on their underlying problems and facilitate a more strategic approach to treatment. Methods Literature review and peer collaboration informed the current availability of educational material for use by experienced injectors when assessing patients presenting with dark circles. A practitioner survey provided insight into current practices. A focus group convened to review the survey results and discuss best practice approaches to patient assessment. Results Surveyed practitioners (n = 39) reported patient concern about under eye hollows (91%), dark eye circles (80%) and looking tired (60%). All (100%) agreed that mid-cheek volume was critical when treating tear trough depression, only 26% reported use of a tear-trough classification system. The focus group developed a framework for assessing tear trough depression and the lid-cheek junction in patients presenting with dark circles. Key factors within this framework include the importance of appropriate lighting when conducing a visual inspection, regional inspection of the cheek and tear trough, palpation of the orbital rim and soft tissues, determination of the orbital vector and assessment of lower eyelid pigmentation/skin quality. Conclusions Careful step-by-step assessment can reduce the challenges of treating dark circles by identifying patients in whom dark eye circles may be improved without the need to directly inject filler into the tear trough.

Objective To establish a visual assessment scale for the severity of dark circles' pigmented and vascular type in Chinese women. Materials and method A total of 269 healthy Chinese women from Shanghai with different degrees of dark circles', both pigmented and vascular types, were evaluated by visual assessment. Photographs of their dark circles were analyzed by image analysis. Results The visual assessment evaluation on classification and severity showed a favorable agreement between the successive measured results. Significant differences from very slight to severe dark circles for pigmented type and vascular type were observed. The severity level by visual assessment was significantly positively correlated with ΔE values while negatively correlated with ΔL values (P < .01) in both pigmented and vascular types. Besides, Δa values of vascular type were significantly positively correlated with the ΔE values for dark circles' vascular type. Values between ΔE and ΔL also showed a significant negative correlation (P < .01). Conclusion The five‐point visual assessment scale for dark circles of vascular and pigmented types was verified and proved to have good repeatability. The image analysis's objective result proved significant and consistent with the visual assessment and color parameters. This scale could be a useful and effective tool in diagnosing dark circles' severity.
