The study of plant-insect interactions and how cultural groups perceive and manage them constitutes one of the interests of ethnoentomology. This work describes the association between host plants and longhorn beetles (Order: Coleoptera; Family: Cerambycidae), an important food among the Guaraní peoples of the province of Misiones, Argentina. Different management methods of host tree species are analyzed in order to promote the rearing of larvae for edible use. We also discuss a story about the mythical origin of cerambicids relayed by the Ava Chiripa Guaraní community. We reflect on the importance of the local worldview in the maintenance of ancestral practices, such as the cultural tasks involved in slash-and-burn agriculture and the intimate knowledge of biological relationships between the cerambycids and their woody host plants.

PALAVRAS-CHAVE RESUMO:Este estudo objetivou relatar a ocorrência de Desmiphora (Desmiphora) lateralis Thomson, 1868 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Lamiinae) e caracterizar o ataque do inseto em galhos oriundos de plantas de Eugenia uniflora L. (Myrtaceae) encontradas em um remanescente de vegetação secundária, localizado nas coordenadas 30°12'29"S; 53°34'21"W, no município de São Sepé, RS, Brasil. A ocorrência do inseto foi constatada a partir da emergência de oito adultos de 71 galhos coletados em dez árvores de Eugenia uniflora, em agosto de 2014. O ataque caracterizou-se pela retirada, pelo inseto, da casca externa e interna no entorno da base dos galhos até o câmbio vascular, acarretando a quebra destes. Verificou-se preferência de oviposição em galhos com diâmetros médios compreendidos entre 0,82 cm e 1,16 cm. Este é o primeiro registro de Desmiphora (D.) lateralis atacando galhos de Eugenia uniflora no sul do Brasil, estabelecendo-se como uma praga importante em termos de risco potencial para a pitangueira. RESUMO. Trata da apresentação do Iheringia, Série Zoologia, suplemento Biota-MS, constituído de 56 artigos sobre a biodiversidade de Mato Grosso do Sul (elaborados por 174 pesquisadores de 41 instituições brasileiras e internacionais), em que são listadas 5.195 espécies de animais e discriminadas as espécies ameaçadas, endêmicas ou, no Brasil, só citadas para o estado. O artigo resgata as ações que deram origem ao "Programa de Ciência, Tecnologia & Inovação em Biodiversidade do Mato Grosso do Sul (Biota-MS)", implantado em 2009, discute a importância da biodiversidade quanto ao seu valor intrínseco e aos produtos e serviços dela derivados, apresentando-a como um tema estratégico ao desenvolvimento regional, e cita os esforços que o programa vem desenvolvendo para atingir os objetivos estabelecidos. Apesar dos entraves à preparação desta edição, tais como a falta de especialistas em diversos táxons e a difi culdade em quantifi car a diversidade de espécies de Mato Grosso do Sul a partir do material coletado antes de 1977, quando Mato Grosso e Mato Grosso do Sul eram Estado uno, os resultados obtidos constituem-se em um dos mais atualizados e sistematizados trabalhos de organização de dados biológicos no Brasil.PALAVRAS-CHAVE.
