Esomeprazole

Abstract: Esomeprazole is an effective, well tolerated treatment for managing GORD and for eradicating H. pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcer disease. In 8-week double-blind trials, esomeprazole healed oesophagitis and resolved symptoms in patients with endoscopically confirmed erosive oesophagitis and overall, provided better efficacy than omeprazole. Notably, in a large (n >5000 patients) double-blind trial, esomeprazole 40mg provided significantly better efficacy than lansoprazole in terms of healing rat… Show more

“…Ranitidine @2mg/kg IV q 12 hr has not been shown a major effect on gastric acid suppression . Proton pump inhibitors are the most potent agents for suppression of gastric acid secretion by the inhibition of the gastric H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (the proton pump), which leads to failing the gastric secretion and rising the intragastric mucosal pH (Miner et al, 2003;Scott et al, 2002). Mainly clinically available proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, and pantoprazole (Miner et al, 2003).…”

“…Benzimidazole is a potential heterocyclic pharmacophore responsible for a number of important pharmacological properties, such as anti-pyretic, antihistaminic, anti-allergic (Nakano et al, 2000), and anti-ulcerative (Scott et al, 2002). They are also effective against various viruses like influenza, human cyto-megalovirus, and HIV.…”

“…Not only can they be used for producing medicines such as omeprazole and pimobendan, but also have they exhibited significant activities against some viruses including RSV 2 , herpes (HCV) 3 , HIV 4 and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) 5 . Benzoimidazoles and their derivatives exhibit a number of important pharmacological properties, such as antihistaminic 6 , anti-ulcerative 7 , antiallergic 8 and antipyretic 9 . In addition, benzoimidazole derivatives are effective against the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) 10 and are also efficient selective neuropeptide Y Y1 receptor antagonists 11 .…”
