Eradication of Helicobacter pylori with pantoprazole and two antibiotics: a comparison of two short‐term regimens

Abstract: Since the discovery of Helicobacter pylori in the early 1980s, its role as a major pathogenic factor in peptic ulcer disease has been well established. Therapeutic regimens aiming to eradicate the bacterium have been shown to be highly effective and are strongly recommended in the treatment of patients with peptic ulcer disease.1 With classic bismuth salt based triple therapy, combining bismuth with two antibiotics, poor compliance is often observed resulting from a high incidence of side-effects. 2 In search … Show more

“… 5 The current recommended eradication therapies comprise a proton pump inhibitor, clarithromycin and amoxicillin or metronidazole, twice daily for a 1‐week period 6–8 . By use of these treatments, > 90% cure rates are reported in some studies 9–12 . However, an eradication failure ranging from 20% to 40% is found, mainly because of antimicrobial resistance 13–17 …”
