Epoxy mortar timber beam upgrading

Abstract: The physical and mechanical properties of brown-pigmented particulate composites based on epoxy polymer reinforced with quartz particles were assessed experimentally. The best setup condition was chosen to repair Maçaranduba and Cedrinho timber species. A full factorial design was conducted to evaluate the effect of the quartz particle (0, 40, 50, 60 wt-%) and pigment (0, 0.02 wt-%) inclusions on the density, apparent porosity, compressive modulus and strength. The composite made with 50 wt-% of quartz particl… Show more

“…Besides renovation of timber buildings, these connections can be easily replaced which will extend the life of the timber joists. For renovation purposes, the use of lightweight concrete is a better solution than using a non-structural mortar screed [3] as it contributes to the structural integrity of the floor while adding a lower weight, which can be often more appropriate for existing structures. The rehabilitation of timber floor with lightweight concrete requires a performant connection that can guarantee an efficient a composite action between these two materials.…”

“…In recent years, some scholars have tried to combine epoxy resin with other materials to repair the damaged timber beams. The results show that such composites have good characteristics in the repair process [23][24][25][26]. Many scholars have directly filled epoxy resin into the cracks and holes of timber structure to reinforce it [27][28][29] and found that the strength of timber is generally improved after epoxy resin repair.…”

“…The timber structures, if not properly treated for physical and biological attacks, such as climate change, moisture change, can present problems such as cracks, which may compromise the purposes for which they were designed (Dias and Lahr 2004, Sander et al 2017).…”
