Enzymmuster Und Progesteronsynthese

Abstract: During the maturation of follicles and corpora lutea in the rabbit ovary the activity levels of oxidoreductases of glycolysis, citric acid cycle, glycerophosphate cycle, pentose phosphate shunt as well as the Δ5,3β-hydroxy-steroid dehydrogenase were studied in granulosa cells by histochemical technique. While the oxidoreductases of the glycolysis, the citric acid cycle and glycerophosphate cycle show continuously unvaried activities a remarkable increase was found regarding the activities of NADPH2-supplying e… Show more

“…The theca are thought to be the principal steroid-producing compartment in the preovulatory follicle, with the granulosa functioning as steroid secretors only after the corpus luteum has formed (1,4,(14)(15)(16). However, incubated granulosa cells synthesized progesterone throughout the 48-h culture period (Table 4), and well before the cells would have acquired the morphological characteristics of luteinization (1,3).…”

“…Enzyme activities represent an important standard by which meta bolic processes may be analyzed. Investigation has already been carried out into the possibility of a correlation between enzyme activity in the follicle wall and the synthesis of steroids [Deane et cd., 1962;Brandau et al, 1967;Smith and Waynforth, 1970]. Despite extensive knowledge of the presence of enzymes in the ovary tissue, very little is known of the activity of enzymes in the human follicular fluid.…”
