Pesticides are the most dangerous organic pollutants for human and environmental health. These are substances that are harmful to health, the use of which has increased in recent years, to kill pests in agricultural production. The areas of use of pesticides, apart from agricultural activities, are in the fight against mosquitoes, which cause malaria, which creates a significant health problem for human health in the landscape, construction industry, timber protection, forestry, control of aquatic organisms, industrial insect control, food storage, transportation, and community hygiene there are multiple uses such as. Excessive intake of the body leads to many diseases, cancer formation, even death. In this study, it was aimed to analyze the pesticides Atrazine, Chlorfenvinfos, Chlorpyrifos, Diuron, Isoproturon, and Simazine simultaneously with LC-MS/MS, in Boğazköy Dam in Bursa(Turkey) and the branches that feed the dam in Bursa, İnegöl district. The samples were taken from 12 locations and were given to the device by direct injection. Environmental Quality Standards were taken as reference for the calibration of the method. Validation studies such as LOD, LOQ, linearity, and recovery have been performed for the accuracy of the method. As a result, it has been determined that the pesticide derivatives examined in the waters feeding the Boğazköy Dam and the dam itself do not exceed the Environmental Quality Standards limit values and do not pose a risk in irrigation of agricultural areas and surface waters.

Agricultural Water Management Model Based on Grey Water Footprints under Uncertainty and its Application

The grey water footprint theory was introduced into a fractional programming model to alleviate non-point source pollution and increase water-use efficiency through the adjustment of crop planting structure. The interval programming method was also incorporated within the developed framework to handle parametric uncertainties. The objective function of the model was the ratio of economic benefits to grey water footprints from crop production, and the constraints contained water availability constraints, food security constraints, planting area constraints, grey water footprint constraints and non-negative constraints. The model was applied to the Hetao Irrigation District of China. It was found that, based on the data in the year of 2016, the optimal planting plans generated from the developed model would reduce 34,400 m3 of grey water footprints for every 100 million Yuan gained from crops. Under the optimal planting structure, the total grey water footprints would be reduced by 21.9 million m3, the total economic benefits from crops would be increased by 1.138 billion Yuan, and the irrigation water would be saved by 44 million m3. The optimal results could provide decision-makers with agricultural water use plans with reduced negative impacts on the environment and enhanced economic benefits from crops.

Distribution of pesticide residues in the environment and their transport to surface water bodies is one of the most important environmental challenges. Fate of pesticides in the complex environments, especially in aquatic phases such as lakes and rivers, is governed by the main properties of the contaminants and the environmental properties. In this study, a multimedia mass modeling approach using the Quantitative Water Air Sediment Interaction (QWASI) model was applied to explore the fate of organochlorine pesticide residues of methoxychlor, α-HCH and endosulfan-sulfate in the lake Naivasha (Kenya). The required physicochemical data of the pesticides such as molar mass, vapor pressure, air-water partitioning coefficient (K AW ), solubility, and the Henry's law constant were provided as the inputs of the model. The environment data also were collected using field measurements and taken from the literature. The sensitivity analysis of the model was applied using One At a Time (OAT) approach and calibrated using measured pesticide residues by passive sampling method. Finally, the calibrated model was used to estimate the fate and distribution of the pesticide residues in different media of the lake. The result of sensitivity analysis showed that the five most sensitive parameters were K OC , logKow, half-life of the pollutants in water, half-life of the pollutants in sediment, and K AW . The variations of outputs for the three studied pesticide residues against inputs were noticeably different. For example, the range of changes in the concentration of α-HCH residue was between 96% to 102%, while for methoxychlor and endosulfan-sulfate it was between 65% to 125%. The results of calibration demonstrated that the model was calibrated reasonably with the R 2 of 0.65 and RMSE of 16.4. It was found that methoxychlor had a mass fraction of almost 70% in water column and almost 30% of mass fraction in the sediment. In contrast, endosulfan-sulfate had highest most fraction in the water column (>99%) and just a negligible percentage in the sediment compartment. α-HCH also had the same situation like endosulfan-sulfate (e.g., 99% and 1% in water and sediment, respectively). Finally, it was concluded that the application of QWASI in combination with passive sampling technique allowed an insight to the fate process of the studied OCPs and helped actual concentration predictions. Therefore, the results of this study can also be used to perform risk assessment and investigate the environmental exposure of pesticide residues.
