“…Results of chronic respiratory diseases and quality of life from this project have already been published (Carreiro-Martins et al, 2016). The team involved was the same of a previous one that studied the health impact of indoor air environment in Children Day Care Centers (ENVIRH) (Araújo-Martins et al, 2014;Paixão et al,2014).…”

“…Until now, numerous pollutants have been detected in indoor air of kindergartens, in which primary air quality indicator, CO 2 presents the most researched one. Araújo-Martins et al [6] and Mainka and Zajusz-Zubek [7] highlight that CO 2 levels often exceed the required and recommended limit values above 1800 mg/m 3 (1000 ppm). Especially high concentrations have been associated with low efficiency of ventilation systems.…”

“…Especially high concentrations have been associated with low efficiency of ventilation systems. For example, the average measured CO 2 in Portuguese daycare centres was 3846±662 mg/m 3 (2137±368 ppm); in preschool buildings in Poland it was above 1800 mg/m 3 (1.000 ppm) [6] and [7]. Butala and Novak [8] performed a study on energy consumption and potential energy savings in 24 school buildings in Slovenia.…”
