In this study, we investigated the effect of entrepreneurial competencies (ECs) on entrepreneurial mindset (EM), entrepreneurial intention (EI), and entrepreneurial motives (EMTs) among female Saudi Arabian university students. We applied a quantitative approach and collected the data through a survey questionnaire by using convenience sampling to trace the respondents. Finally, the results of this study were based on 388 samples. By using a structural equation model (SEM), the findings demonstrate that ECs have positive and significant effects on EM, EI, and EMTs. In addition, there are positive and significant relationships between EM and EI as well as between EMTs and EI. Finally, EM and EMTs mediate the connection between ECs and EI. The findings of this study could support policymakers at different levels in developing their financial models, plans, and suggestions for entrepreneurial development. In addition, the findings should inspire well motivated people to engage in entrepreneurial activities and to aspire to become entrepreneurs. Finally, the originality and value of this research contribute to the existing literature, by demonstrating among Saudi Arabian female university students, the effects of ECs on EM, EI, and EMTs.

Purpose This study aims at measuring the results of the use of an improved and innovative teaching method, specifically designed for supporting the development of students’ entrepreneurship competence, through students’ self-assessment before and after the teaching. Design/methodology/approach The teaching methods design was based on the effectuation approach and considering the comprehensive entrepreneurship competence model as theoretical grounding. The teaching methods experimentation took place in three countries (Estonia, Italy and Poland), collecting pre–post self-assessment surveys from 404 students of entrepreneurship courses. The results of the experimental groups were compared, in each country, with those of control groups not exposed to the same teaching. Findings Students participating in classes using innovative teaching methods declared an increase in entrepreneurship competencies, with statistically significant differences, contrasting the results in the control group. The positive changes in self-assessment were observed for 13 of 14 subcompetencies investigated. The increase in the level of the self-assessment of entrepreneurship subcompetencies was significantly greater among bachelor’s degree students. Originality/value The strengths of the study include a diverse research sample and a uniform structure of teaching design applied in three different countries, while specific comparative studies on entrepreneurship education and its effect on learners are limited. Moreover, this study used a pre–post design and involved a control group, while most of the existing research on the effect of entrepreneurship teaching are based on different methods. Finally, while most studies measure the impact of entrepreneurship education by focusing on entrepreneurial intentions, this study focused on the development of students’ entrepreneurship competences.

Entrepreneurship has been an economic tool for many governments, especially those facing unemployment challenges. Ghana is facing high unemployment among its youth. Various administrations have implemented policies, including the National Youth Employment Program and the YouStart Program, to solve the unemployment challenge. These initiatives, however, have yet to solve unemployment. This study examines the role of formal education in fostering entrepreneurship. Data were collected using a quantitative approach through a structured questionnaire survey administered to 140 entrepreneurs in Ghana’s Sunyani Municipality. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Correlational analysis was performed to examine the relationship between formal education and entrepreneurial performance. The study findings show that entrepreneurial-based education, not only formal education, helps graduates successfully establish and operate their own businesses. This contributes immensely to reducing unemployment. The results also reveal a weak positive correlation between formal education and entrepreneurial performance; however, the observed correlation was not statistically significant. Thus, formal education may influence entrepreneurial performance, but other variables may have a greater influence. The implications of these results highlight the importance of equipping students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to help them succeed as entrepreneurs. This can boost economic growth and lower unemployment. The study's implications go beyond Ghana, as many nations struggle with unemployment. Findings form this research would drive policy-making and educational restructuring efforts to promote entrepreneurship and reduce global unemployment. The authors recommended modifying the existing educational curriculum to include more emphasis on entrepreneurship education, spanning from primary to higher education levels.
