Enterococci Isolated from Japanese Quails Exposed to Microgravity Conditions and Stability of their Properties

Abstract: Enterococci isolated from the crop and caecum of Japanese quails exposed to 7 day conditions of microgravity were re-vitalized after their dry-freezing long storage. Originally, the strains were isolated from Japanese quails after their landing from flight onboard the orbital station Mir during the experiment in August 1990. Because taxonomy as well as the studies concerning the bacteriocins, especially those produced by enterococci, have been continually developed for years, the aim of this study was to confi… Show more

“…Other isolated bacteria from intestineswere involved Enterococcus faecalis, Staphyloc-occusaureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus spp.and Bacillus spp. These results accepted with the previous studies in the same line (2,15,16,18,20,21), which refered that the intestinal bacteria may be the main source for contamination of other internal organs (21).…”

“…Results of cultured liver samples revealed isolation of six bacterial types (Table 1) includedCorynebacterium spp., E. coli, Bacillus spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia and Enterococcus faecalis. Many studies referred to the isolation of one or more of these bacterial species from livers particularly E. coli, Enterococci and Staphylococci (16,(18)(19)(20), while Corynebacterium spp. isolationwas not referred previously; and this will confirm the environmental changes (17).…”

“…The counts of faecal enterococci (5.48 ± 1.9 log10 CFU/g) detected in common pheasants were comparable with the counts of enterococci determined in other poultry (Lauková and Michlovičová, 2009). The strains were allotted to the species E. hirae, E. faecium and E. faecalis.…”
