Enhancing the Water Accounting and Vulnerability Evaluation Model: WAVE+

Abstract: Due to the increasing relevance of analyzing water consumption along product life cycles, the water accounting and vulnerability evaluation model (WAVE) has been updated and methodologically enhanced. Recent data from the atmospheric moisture tracking model WAM2-layers is used to update the basin internal evaporation recycling (BIER) ratio, which denotes atmospheric moisture recycling within drainage basins. Potential local impacts resulting from water consumption are quantified by means of the water deprivati… Show more

“…With regards to the third stated application, sustainability studies and Water Footprinting, the provided dataset shows as well promising usage possibilities. Knowledge on the fate of evaporation was firstly integrated within the method of Water Footprinting by Berger et al (2014Berger et al ( , 2018 via an enhanced water accounting method. This considered atmospheric moisture recycling ratios within drainage basins which could reduce water consumption patterns significantly (Berger et al, 2014(Berger et al, , 2018.…”

“…This study aims to answer these questions by examining the magnitudes and structures of inter-regional VW trade and provincial WF based on an MRIO analysis for the years, 2007 and 2010. Moreover, the assessed VW was combined with an integrated factor of WAVE+ (water accounting and vulnerability evaluation) [33], thereby providing a basis for better management of water resources.…”
