“…In addition, in the presence of DABCO, which is a well‐known singlet oxygen scavenger (Lengfelder et al., ) (Table , entry 6) photooxidation of oleic acid was inhibited. According to the literature, singlet oxygen lifetime in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent is 19 μs, in acetonitrile (CH 3 CN) solvent is 65 μs, and in ethanol solvent is 38 μs which was corresponded with the results in Table (entry 3,7, and 8) (Bressan & Morvillo, ; Chen et al., ; Toffoli, Gomes, Junior, & Courrol, ). Table entry 3, 7, and 8 indicates that conversion of oleic acid in acetonitrile as solvent is higher than ethanol and DMSO that correlated with singlet oxygen lifetimes in this solvents.…”

“…Paramagnetic metals are claimed to quench singlet oxygen by energy transfer mechanism from oxygen to the low-lying d orbital electron levels and have very short triplet lifetimes ( (Bressan & Morvillo, 1989;Chen et al, 2001;Toffoli, Gomes, Junior, & Courrol, 2008). Table 1 entry 3, 7, and 8 indicates that conversion of oleic acid in acetonitrile as solvent is higher than ethanol and DMSO that correlated with singlet oxygen lifetimes in this solvents.…”

“…Hence there is wide interest to improve red absorption [14] and amphiphilicity of hypocrellins. Studies in the literature have shown that the PDT performance of HB can be improved modifying its structure for example complexing it with lanthanum ions [15,16]. To evaluate HB:La 3+ complex activities against in vitro suspension of C. albicans we compare its performance with one of MB.…”

“…Table1entry 4 and 6 show that the formation of peroxide products from oleic acid in acetonitrile solvent is higher than ethanol solvent. These results are correlated with 1 O 2 lifetime in acetonitrile (65 𝝁s) and ethanol (38 𝝁s) solvents(Bressan and Morvillo 1989;Chen et al 2001;Toffoli et al 2008). In addition to these results, trace formation of peroxide products in the presence of O 2•-, indicating that the dominant pathway under our reaction conditions is not the Type 𝜤 mechanism.…”
