Scavenging effect of pasipay (passiflora incarnate L.) on singlet oxygen generation and fatty acid photooxygenation

Abstract: Anthracene as a chemical probe is usually used to trap the singlet oxygen and then detection and quantification can be based on absorbance. In this study, oxidation of anthracene declared that rate of singlet oxygen quenching in the presence of pasipay (passiflora incarnate L.) as a natural antioxidant, 1,4 Diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane (DABCO) as a well‐known singlet oxygen scavenger and highly effective synthetic antioxidants in food industry such as Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Butylated hydroxyanisole (BH… Show more

“…In our previous studies, an efficient system for the porphyrinssensitized aerobic oxidation of fatty acids has been developed in the presence of visible light [21][22][23][24]. Herein, in continuation of our studies we report oxidative alterations of oleic acid as a result of oxidation with singlet oxygen, superoxide radical, hydrogen peroxide and radical hydroxyl in the presence and absence of cumin as a natural antioxidant.…”

“…PV (peroxide value, meq O 2 /kg) of the samples was determined according to the literature [21][22][23][24][25][26][27]. Oleic acid oxidation process was monitored by UV-Vis (Shimadzu 2100 spectrophotometer) during the reaction at =200-380 nm.…”

“…In the literature, the metallaassembly, which was constructed from 9,10-bis(3,3′-ethynylpyridyl)anthracene, also exhibited an unsatisfactory photooxidation even after irradiation for 210 h in DMSO . The reason could be that the lifetime of 1 O 2 in DMSO is very short (19 μs) in the presence of O 2 under irradiation . Furthermore, an investigation of the kinetics of photooxygenation in DMSO was carried out by UV–vis measurements, and the first-order kinetic constants of photooxygenation for L 1 , L 2 , 1 , and 2 in DMSO are 0.0290, 0.0162, 0.0310, and 0.02265 h –1 (Figures S44–S49), respectively.…”

“…The photosensitized production of singlet oxygen has significance in the areas of the photooxidation of organic compounds and food chemistry [27][28][29][30]. Photooxygenation of oleic acid as one of the targets of singlet oxygen was investigated as a typical standard sample to evaluate the antioxidant effect of peppermint.…”
