Enhancement of Paclitaxel Production in Plant Cell Culture Including Increased Amount of Water-immiscible 1-Butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide

Abstract: We report here the effect of increased amount of a water-immiscible ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (P14-TFSI), enhancing the production amount of paclitaxel with in situ extraction from an aqueous medium in a plant cell culture. The productivity of paclitaxel in the culture including the IL of 10 vol% was 1.5 times greater than that of 2.5 vol%. Moreover, addition of an elicitor, methyl jasmonate (MJ) enhanced the production amount of paclitaxel in the cultu… Show more

“…In previous research, increasing the amount of P14TFSI from 2.5 to 10 vol% in the two-phase culture system to reduce the PTX's feedback inhibition improved the cell growth rate and enhanced the production amount of the PTX by factor of 1.5 [19]. The productivity of PTX in the culture with twice refreshment of 2.5 vol% P14TFSI in this research is 7 times that without the refreshment (Figure 5).…”
