For most elementary teachers, maintaining classroom discipline is a daily concern, one that can be rewarding and at the same time a source of frustration. The inclusion of students with emotional or behavioral disorders and other students with behavioral problems can strain even the most competent classroom teachers and may add to the already increasing demands to maintain discipline in today's classrooms. Because maintaining positive classroom discipline is one of the foremost concerns of teachers and other education professionals, we analyzed the discipline-related content of a purposively selected sample of 13 elementary education journals published over a 10-year period, determining the number and type of articles published and the articles’ thematic content. We found that only 1 % of the articles were about classroom discipline, and the content often failed to define specifically and substantively the teacher's role in identifying and mediating behavior problems. We argue that the attention to classroom discipline in elementary education journals is not commensurate with teachers’ level of concern about classroom discipline and that scholars in elementary education may not perceive this topic to be an important curriculum issue and/or a primary responsibility of the classroom teacher.

The purpose of this study is to reflect the effectiveness of a drama education program, identify the pro-social behaviour level of children, and determine the effects of the drama education program on the pro-social behaviours of children. In this study, experimental method with the pre-test, post-test retention control group design is adopted. General information form and a Collaboration-Cooperation-Sharing Observation Form are used as data collection tools. Under the scope of this study, a 12-week drama education program is applied. The results of the study show that there is a significant difference between pre-test/post-test and retention scores between the experiment and control group. It is seen that drama education is effective for children to gain collaboration, cooperation and sharing behaviour, to adopt these behaviours and to internalize them.

Prososyal davranışlar, başkalarına yarar sağlamaya yönelik olarak gerçekleştirilen ve tamamen gönüllü eylemler olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, okul öncesi dönem çocukların prososyal davranışlarının yaş, cinsiyet, kardeş sayısı, okul öncesi eğitim kurumuna devam süresi ve anne-babanın öğrenim düzeyi, ebeveyn tutumları açısından incelenmesi ve bu değişkenlerin prososyal davranışlar üzerindeki yordayıcı etkisinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma, 25-72 ay aralığındaki 290 çocuk ile yürütülmüştür. Verilerin toplanmasında "Demografik Bilgi Formu", "Çocuk Prososyallik Ölçeği (ÇPÖ)" ve "Ebeveyn Tutum Ölçeği (ETÖ)" kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde t-testi, ANOVA, Pearson moment çarpım korelasyon katsayısı ve aşamalı çoklu regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; kız çocuklarının ÇPÖ'den almış oldukları puanların erkek çocuklara göre anlamlı olarak daha yüksek olduğu; çocuğun yaşı büyüdükçe prososyal davranış puan ortalamalarının arttığı; 6 aydan fazla okul öncesi eğitim kurumuna devam eden çocukların prososyal davranış puan ortalamalarının, yeni başlayanlara göre daha yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Demokratik ebeveyn tutumu, cinsiyet ve yaş değişkenleri ÇPÖ puanlarının yaklaşık %14'ünü açıklamaktadır.
