En 2015, el activismo feminista de Argentina alcanzó una escala sin precedentes con la marcha Ni Una Menos. Tomando esta protesta como terreno empírico, en este artículo se indaga en los factores que explican por qué las mujeres jóvenes se unen a los movimientos feministas. En particular, por qué se volcaron a las calles para protestar y denunciar los feminicidios y la violencia de género. Mediante entrevistas a jóvenes, a organizadoras de la marcha y a activistas feministas de larga trayectoria, se muestra cómo una convocatoria novedosa en términos prefigurativos y performativos, más la trama organizativa feminista preexistente, fueron condiciones que canalizaron una sensibilidad joven a la protesta callejera. El trabajo destaca las unidades generacionales, la disponibilidad estructural de la juventud y la política expresiva de los movimientos como condiciones para la protesta feminista juvenil.

“…Sociologists of emotions have revealed important linkages between emotionunacknowledged shame, in particular -and the origins (or unlikelihood) of violence in a wide range of contexts ranging from marital conflict to war (Scheff and Retzinger, 1991;Scheff, 1994;Collins, 2007); however, further research is necessary to elucidate the consequences of violence on emotions. Sociologists of emotions working in and on Latin America (Ariza, 2016; are paying increased attention to the impact of violence on emotion: in the emergence of 'citizens of fear' (Rotker, 2002); in shaping migrant subjectivities (Aquino Moreschi, 2015); in creating obstacles for everyday mobility in urban contexts (Koury, 2017); and in giving rise to new public spaces and practices for collective mourning, healing and memory (Gravante and Poma, 2019;Rizzo, 2020;Ramírez, n.d.). This article contributes to growing sociological interest in theorising fear by providing cross-class evidence of what people do when they are afraid and how their emotion strategies matter for broader inequalities. Drawing on and extending pragmatist approaches to the study of emotion, I conceptualise the logistics of fear as the strategies that people employ to manage fear when prompted by a large-scale threat at the societal level. I argue that fear in such contexts can quickly exacerbate inequality by means of the unequal resources people draw on to solve or manage fear on a daily basis. Drawing on qualitative fieldwork conducted in the midst of a violent criminal war in urban Mexico, I trace the restructuring of metropolitan nightlife as a three-stage process: destruction, dispersion, and classed re-concentration. Attention to classed variations in emotion strategies over time provides evidence of the destructive and creative facets of fear, as well as of its stratifying power. More broadly, this research puts forth a pragmatist approach to the study of emotion that centres emotion as a problem and social process.

This article discusses how the sociology of emotions in Latin America, a recently established field of knowledge still in the process of institutionalization, first developed between 2000 and 2019. Research in this period focused on six wide-ranging and heterogeneous thematic areas: ( a) social change, sociability and emotions; ( b) social movements and feelings; ( c) gender, generations, affectivity and care; ( d) migration and emotions; ( e) work, affectivity and emotions; and ( f ) theoretical reflections and analytical propositions. Critical evaluation of the field has uncovered three areas of analytical tension that impede its consolidation: disciplinary boundary-setting (sociology, sociology and anthropology of the emotions, philosophy), analytical perspectives (sociological, sociocultural, philosophical), and the object of research (emotions, emotions and the body, the body and emotions), all of which have implications for social research.
