Objetivo: analisar a relação entre tempo de exercício na profissão e ocorrências éticas de profissionais de enfermagem envolvidos em denúncias registradas no Conselho Regional de Enfermagem de Mato Grosso do Sul (COREN/MS). Método: trata-se de pesquisa documental, descritiva e retrospectiva, sendo analisadas as denúncias registradas junto ao COREN/MS, no período de 2003 a 2013. Pesquisa aprovada por Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa. Resultados: foram analisadas 111 denúncias, envolvendo 68 enfermeiros, 41 técnicos e 41 auxiliares de enfermagem. O grupo de profissionais com 1 a 5 anos de formação envolveu-se mais em ocorrências éticas (44,7%). Conclusão: o predominante envolvimento de profissionais de enfermagem recém-formados em ocorrências éticas indica que é imperativa a realização de mais pesquisas sobre a bioética na formação da enfermagem brasileira, seja para conhecer a real situação, quanto para fornecer subsídios para a tomada de decisão da equipe de enfermagem.

Objective: To understand the nurses' moral deliberation in the face of an ethical problem involving breastfeeding. Method: Qualitative study based on the methodological theoretical framework of deliberative bioethics. Data collection was through a vignette-based interview and results were organized by thematic analysis. Results: Nurses tend to take over intermediate courses of action, although extreme courses of action are found as well. Final considerations: When they tend to take extreme courses of action, nurses approach decisions focused on the child welfare to the detriment of the mother's need as a working woman. RESUMOObjetivo: Compreender a deliberação moral de enfermeiros diante de um problema ético envolvendo o aleitamento materno. Método: Estudo qualitativo, fundamentado no referencial teórico-metodológico da bioética deliberativa. A coleta de dados foi através de entrevista orientada por vinheta e os resultados foram organizados por análise temática. Resultados: Os enfermeiros tendem a assumir cursos de ações intermediários, todavia, são encontrados cursos de ação extremos. Considerações finais: Quando tendem a cursos de ação extremos, os enfermeiros acercam-se das decisões voltadas para o bem-estar da criança, em detrimento das necessidades da mãe, enquanto mulher trabalhadora. RESUMENObjetivo: Comprender la deliberación moral de los enfermeros que enfrentan un problema ético relacionado con la lactancia materna. Método: Investigación cualitativa, basada en el marco teórico metodológico de la bioética deliberativa. La recolección de datos se realizó mediante una entrevista basada en viñeta y los resultados se organizaron mediante el análisis temático. Resultados: Los enfermeros tienden a tomar cursos de acción intermedios, sin embargo, se encuentran cursos de acción extremos. Consideraciones finales: Cuando tienden a tomar cursos de acción extremos, los enfermeros abordan las decisiones sobre el bienestar del niño, en detrimento de las necesidades de la madre como mujer trabajadora.

Objective: to historicize the approval of the First International Code of Ethics for Nurses and analyze its 14 articles and their relevance to the historical and current context. Method: this is a historical and social study, with a qualitative approach. The sources were composed of official publications of the International Council of Nurses and reports of activities developed during the X Quadrennial Congress in 1953. A document review was carried out, involving two processes: the external criticism, regarding the authenticity of the document, and the internal criticism, which consists in the careful reading of the text, in an effort to interpret it. Results: the first International Code of Ethics for Nurses discusses the nurses’ responsibilities in their professional and personal life to guarantee the social recognition of this professional, as well as an ethical performance, encompassing the following aspects: the nurse’s commitment to the care provided and the valuation of professional and personal relationships, involving physicians, patients, and the community. Conclusion: as this code would have to meet the needs of nurses in the several cultures, religions, customs, and laws and regulations of the continents, it was based on universal principles and concepts, such as respect for life, dignity and human rights, without discrimination of any kind. In this direction, the 1st International Council of Nurses Code of Ethics set out to be a universally accepted document in its fundamental ethical principles, regarding the patient and the relationships between the nursing team, and physicians, as well as other professionals.
