Electron spin resonance and optical studies of poly(methylmethacrylate) doped with CuCl2

Abstract: Poly(methyl methacrylate) doped with CuCl 2 was prepared and its electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra and optical properties were studied. The ESR spectra can be accounted for by the presence of two radicals: R a and R b . FTIR spectroscopy reveals that there is no main difference of the spectra due to the addition of CuCl 2 . The structural modifications are identified by investigating the doping level dependence of the peak heights of certain IR absorption peaks. The optical absorption, transmittance, and r… Show more

“…Table 3 shows excitation, emission peaks and the calculated energy difference between the excitation and the emission peaks. Different research groups have worked on electron spin resonance (ESR) of polymers [48][49][50]. However, reports on ESR analysis of fs laser irradiated polymers are sparse as the field has gained momentum recently and many theoretical and experimental results need to be explored further.…”

“…In doped film the intensity of this peak is increased as the absorption coefficient increases as doping level increases. This may be due to the string interaction between PVC and Mn 2+ ions 39 . The absorption coefficient α can be determined from the spectra using the formula.…”

“…The observed signals are characterized by the following features. For undoped PVC, the EPR spectrum can be accounted for the presence of a broad single line spectrum at g = 2.48 (Figure 10 inset), this broad single line arose from coupling of the unpaired electron spin and a large number of protons 39 .…”
