Window panes, glass structures and electrochromic windows in buildings may be characterized by a number of solar radiation glazing factors, i.e. ultraviolet solar transmittance, visible solar transmittance, solar transmittance, solar material protection factor, solar skin protection factor, external visible solar reflectance, internal visible solar reflectance, solar reflectance, solar absorbance, emissivity, solar factor and colour rendering factor. Comparison of these solar quantities for different glass fabrications enables one to evaluate and thus select the most appropriate glass material or system for the specific buildings and applications. Measurements and calculations were carried out on various glass materials, including three electrochromic window devices, and several two-layer and three-layer window pane configurations.

Thin lms of MnO2, Mn2O3, and Mn3O4 have been grown from single precursor solution by varying the post-annealing condition on the glass and corning substrate using a solgel technique. By annealing in air and at temperature between 600 and 800• C, cubic Mn2O3 lms could be formed. The lms were thermally annealed at dierent temperatures between 300 and 800• C to create dierent crystalline structure. Even under the air-annealing condition, Zn doping results in a structural transformation from cubic ZnxMn2−xO3 to tetragonal ZnxMn3−xO4. X-ray diraction, atomic force microscopy, and UV-visible spectra were used to characterize the eect of thermal annealing on the optical and structural properties of a Zn doped manganese oxide thin lm. Optical properties of the Mn2O3 and Mn3O4 lms have been investigated by pointwise unconditioned minimization approach.

We performed a comprehensive study on the electrochromism in TiO 2 thin films made by reactive DC magnetron sputtering and elucidated the roles of sputter gas pressure p, O 2 /Ar gas ratio γ and substrate temperature τ s . Good mid-luminous optical modulation-taken to be ~50 % in ~200-nm-thick films-was obtained under charge exchange in a Li + electrolyte for p > 15 mTorr and τ s < 100 °C, whereas γ was less important. The deposition rate dropped for increasing p, and hence p ≈ 15 mTorr was optimal. These films were X-ray amorphous and contained some water. The coloration efficiency η was ~25 cm 2 /C, which exceeds data on η in most prior studies on sputter deposited TiO 2 and verifies that such films can display the same values of η as those of TiO 2 films made by several chemical techniques.
