Electrochemical Determination of Pentachlorophenol in Water on a Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes-Epoxy Composite Electrode

Abstract: The aim of this study was the preparation, characterization, and application of a multi-wall carbon nanotubes-epoxy composite electrode (MWCNT-EP) with 25%, wt. MWCNTs loading for the voltammetric/amperometric determination of pentachlorophenol (PCP) in aqueous solutions. The structural and morphological aspects of the MWCNT-EP composite electrode were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The electrical properties were characterized by direct-current conductivity measurements in relation with the percolat… Show more

“…Taking into account our previously reported papers [14,15], 0.1 M Na 2 SO 4 and 0.1 M NaOH supporting electrolytes were tested for studying the electrochemical behavior of a CNTE electrode in the presence of salicylic acid (SA). Figure 1 shows the cyclic voltammograms recorded in 0.1 M Na 2 SO 4 supporting electrolyte (curve 1) in the presence of 0.6 mM salicylic acid (SA) (curve 2) and 0.1 M NaOH supporting electrolyte (curve 3) and also, in the presence of 0.6 mM salicylic acid (SA) (curve 4).…”

“…PCP is toxic to all life forms since it inhibits oxidative phosphorylation [12]. Furthermore, it can accumulate in living organisms and thus produce adverse effect as carcinogenicity and acute toxicity [13]. In addition, this compound is highly recalcitrant due to the stability of the aromatic ring and its high degree of chlorination [14], whereby it can be considered as a hazardous pollutant for the environment.…”
