Les lixiviats des sites d’enfouissement sanitaires contiennent divers types de composés organiques et inorganiques susceptibles de polluer les milieux aquatiques s’ils ne sont pas convenablement traités. Depuis quelques années, on note une utilisation croissante des techniques électrochimiques, avec des résultats satisfaisants, pour le traitement des lixiviats. Parmi les avantages liés à l’utilisation de ces procédés, on peut citer : une faible emprise au sol, un temps de traitement court, une utilisation limitée, voire inexistante, de réactifs chimiques et une facilité d’automatisation. La capacité à traiter les composés organiques bioréfractaires et à augmenter la biodégradabilité de l’effluent constitue un atout majeur lors du traitement de certains types de lixiviats. Dans cette revue de littérature, un accent particulier est porté sur les trois procédés électrochimiques les plus utilisés pour le traitement des lixiviats, à savoir : l’électro-oxydation (EO), l’électro-Fenton (EF) et l’électrocoagulation (EC). Pour chacun des procédés, les différents paramètres opératoires qui influencent l’efficacité du traitement sont élucidés. D’une façon globale, les procédés électrochimiques sont influencés entre autres par l’intensité du courant appliqué, le type d’électrode utilisé, la distance interélectrodes, le temps de traitement, le pH et la conductivité du milieu. Le couplage des procédés électrochimiques et biologiques pour le traitement des lixiviats a été investigué. L’intégration de ces deux procédés permet d’augmenter les performances épuratoires tout en réduisant les coûts et les temps de traitement. Toutefois, des études approfondies sont nécessaires afin d’optimiser ces couplages et d’éclaircir l’influence du traitement biologique sur le traitement électrochimique et vice-versa.

The feasibility of the electro-Fenton (EF) process to improve the biodegradability of Algerian leachates was examined, in order to prepare this kind of flux for conventional biological treatment. This work also included, for the first time in Algeria, the control and monitorization of a landfill-the "Hamici" landfill. Several physicochemical parameters were determined allowing its classification into an intermediate degradation phase, namely considering their alkaline pH (8.7), high ammonium concentration (3,120 mg/L), low content in heavy metals, and biodegradability (BOD 5 / COD = 0.22). The effects of important parameters such as current intensity, treatment time, and temperature on COD removal have been studied and optimized by using response surface analysis of a central composite design, where 91.1% of COD was removed with a treatment time of 285 min, a current intensity of 3 A, and a temperature of 20°C. A biodegradability test, which was performed on a solution electrolyzed with 120 min, 2 A, and 20°C, allowed to improve the leachates biodegradability from 0.2 to 0.42, with a removal rate of COD and TOC of 53.35% and 34.5%, respectively. However, the current efficiency declined from 137% to 76.6% when the current intensity was rise from 0.5 to 2 A. These results showed the relevance of EF process applied on raw intermediate leachates and its possible benefit in the Algiers leachates treatment processes. Thus, it was concluded that biological treatment can be combined with EF process for optimal mineralization of leachates with clear advantages in this studied location. • Practitioner points• Characterization and treatment of leachates by electro-Fenton (EF) process were carried out. • The leachates are intermediate type and therefore biologically recalcitrant. • The operating parameter for EF process were modeled and optimized by the central composite design. • Current intensity of 2 A reduces COD and TOC of 53.35% and 34.5%, respectively. • The ratio BOD 5 /COD increased from 0.2 to 0.42 after 120 min of electrolysis time.

A B S T R A C TCompared to the incineration and composting, landfill was an ordinary technology which is often used in the solid waste disposal. Landfill leachate is highly loaded, toxic, and harmful to the sanitation of wastewater. In past 20 years, technologies such as advanced oxidation processes had been developed for the treatment of wastewater which is contaminated by the hazardous and recalcitrant organic compounds, such as pesticides, surfactants, and pharmaceuticals and endocrine disrupting chemicals, but so far there is little information about the application of fluidized-beds Fenton process in the oxidation treatment of organic compounds from the municipal landfill leachate. In this paper, the effects of different treatments to the municipal landfill leachate from Shaoxing landfill by gas-liquid fluidized bed with Fenton reagent were examined and evaluated. The effects of various operating conditions, such as treatment time, initial COD strength, initial pH value, initial [H 2 O 2 ], initial [Fe 2+ ], and ventilation volume were examined. After evaluation, several optimal operating conditions (COD = 2500 mg/L, reaction time of 30 min, pH = 2.5, [Fe 2+ ] 0 = 0.05 mmol/L, [H 2 O 2 ] 0 = 0.075 mmol/L, ventilation volume of 0.12 m 3 /h, and temperature = 60˚C) were found under which the maximum COD removal rate (61.4%) was obtained.
