Проаналізовано результати дослідження електронних явищ перенесення заряду в ультратонких плівках міді, золота, нікелю та паладію, нанесе-них методом замороженої конденсації на поверхні скла та сурфактантних підшарів ґерманію субатомної товщини. Підтверджено можливість керу-вання лінійними розмірами кристалітів у площині, паралельній підлож-жю, за допомогою зміни масової товщини сурфактантних підшарів. По-казано, що в електрично суцільних плівках міді та золота з товщиною, більшою за 5-6 нм, і в електрично суцільних плівках нікелю та паладію з товщинами від 4-5 нм зберігається електронна структура, аналогічна електронній структурі масивних металів.Проанализированы результаты исследования электронных явлений пе-реноса заряда в ультратонких плёнках меди, золота, никеля и палладия, нанесённых методом замороженной конденсации на поверхности стекла и сурфактантных подслоёв германия субатомной толщины. Подтверждена возможность управления линейными размерами кристаллитов в плоско-сти, параллельной подложке, за счёт изменения массовой толщины сур-фактантных подслоёв. Показано, что в электрически сплошных плёнках меди и золота толщиной больше 5-6 нм и в электрически сплошных плёнках никеля и палладия с толщинами больше 4-5 нм сохраняется электронная структура, аналогичная электронной структуре массивных металлов.The results of investigation of the electronic-transport phenomena in ultrathin copper, gold, nickel, and palladium films of subatomic thickness, which are deposited by frozen condensation on the surface of both glass and germanium surfactant sublayers, are analysed. Abstract:The production of barrier packaging materials, e.g., for food, by physical vapor deposition (PVD) of inorganic coatings such as aluminum on polymer substrates is an established and well understood functionalization technique today. In order to achieve a sufficient barrier against gases, a coating thickness of approximately 40 nm aluminum is necessary. This review provides a holistic overview of relevant methods commonly used in the packaging industry as well as in packaging research for determining the aluminum coating thickness. The theoretical background, explanation of methods, analysis and effects on measured values, limitations, and resolutions are provided. In industrial applications, quartz micro balances (QCM) and optical density (OD) are commonly used for monitoring thickness homogeneity. Additionally, AFM (atomic force microscopy), electrical conductivity, eddy current measurement, interference, and mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) are presented as more packaging research related methods. This work aims to be used as a guiding handbook regarding the thickness measurement of aluminum coatings for packaging technologists working in the field of metallization.
