Self-care results in individual physical and mental health benefits, however, if understood and carried out from an ethical perspective that incorporates community values. We set out to characterize the academic and non-scientific communities conceptions of self-care through an integrative review, which the hypothesis that the COVID-19 pandemic engendered a more global community-based conception of self-care. The research of 800 scientific articles and 1045 popular media evidenced dissonance between the scientific community’s approach to self-care, which has a relatively more clinical focus and an individual and physical nature, and the popular notions of physical and mental self-care that focus on self-awareness and well-being. The pandemic has influenced the application of self-care with the intensification of clinical analyses and reports and containment measures in international studies. The dialogical, deliberative, and regulatory nature of bioethics underlies the importance of the educational process in shaping citizens who understand self-care as a biological and ethical principle. We conclude that the pandemic opens a new chapter in the history as it impels individuals to look at themselves and others mutually, thus revealing self-care as an ethical principle, which demands a decision-making from a critical, autonomous, and proactive awareness that aims to promote global health.

Previous research has highlighted positive associations between teacher transformational leadership and student enjoyment in school. However, there is a dearth of evidence regarding the mediating effect that motivational orientation has on the relationships between transformational leadership and enjoyment in physical education classes. Given that an affinity for physical education fosters healthy behaviors among adolescents outside of school, this study explores the relationships between teachers’ transformational leadership style and enjoyment experienced by students in physical education, examining the mediating role played by motivational orientation in these relationships. A total sample of 478 adolescents aged 13 to 18 years (mean = 14.55; standard deviation = 1.11) participated. To assess the study variables, the Transformational Teaching Questionnaire, the Task and Ego Orientation in Sports Questionnaire, and the Sport Satisfaction Instrument in Physical Education were used. The findings from the applied structural equation model revealed a significant and positive relationship between teachers’ transformational leadership style and students’ perceived satisfaction, while negative relationships were observed with feelings of boredom. Additionally, positive connections were established between task orientation and enjoyment, along with negative associations with boredom. Indirect effects were also found between a transformational leadership style and both enjoyment and boredom, mediated by the variable task motivational orientation. These results underscore the importance of evaluating both students’ motivational factors and their perceptions of teachers, since they may interact with each other to determine their school satisfaction. Consequently, teachers may need to modify their behavior to improve their interactions with students and increase the chances of adherence to physical activity.

Este artículo analiza la educación y docencia en la formación de sujetos con actitudes y aptitudes que impulsen rupturas de modelos promotores de quietud de la conciencia, obstaculizadores de la autodeterminación, que reprimen la auténtica libertad e impiden ampliar horizontes de universalidad. El objetivo, incentivar la reflexión sobre el rol protagónico de la educación y del docente en la educación emancipadora basada en procesos didáctico pedagógicos generadores de conocimientos en los estudiantes para que asuman actitudes de independencia y autonomía para la toma de decisiones en la resolución de problemas de su práctica cotidiana y de construcción de una sociedad justa, equitativa, inclusiva, democrática, con valores éticos y morales. Es una investigación básica, alcance exploratorio, descriptivo, explicativo; diseño no experimental, enfoque metodológico cuantitativo. Sustento epistémico: teorías críticas. Recolección de datos empirista, muestra probabilística. Técnica: encuesta. Los resultados muestran el 86,5% de coincidencias sobre la necesidad de una educación emancipadora y liberadora que desarrolle actitudes para la crítica, la autocrítica y la gestión política; que supere al docente artesano e incorpore profesionales de la docencia, creativos e innovadores, adaptables a flujos tecnológicos y globalizadores, con visión humanista en la formación de una sociedad consciente de su propia realidad.
