El mito del origen indígena-jesuítico del cateretê en la historiografía brasileña

Abstract

ResumenDesde finales del siglo XIX, la historiografía musical brasileña coincide en atribuirle a la danza del cateretê orígenes indígenas y jesuíticos. Este artículo analiza retrospectivamente la mitificación de esa explicación, partiendo de los autores que la adoptaron en el siglo XX hasta llegar al general José Vieira Couto de Magalhães, a finales del siglo XIX. Se hace un sucinto estudio de la crónica colonial en que este autor se basó, resaltando los fragmentos silenciados. El artículo termina relacionando la acogida que tuvo el supuesto origen indígena-jesuita del cateretê con el contexto social e historiográfico que lo reprodujo.Palabras clave: Historiografía, música caipira, Brasil, Compañía de Jesús, Indígena. AbstractSince the late 19th century, Brazilian musical historiography has agreed on attributing indigenous and Jesuitical origins to the cateretê dance. This article analyses retrospectively the mythification of that explanation, from the authors who adopted it in the 20th century to General José Vieira Couto de Magalhães, in the late 19th century. A succinct study of the colonial chronicle on which this author based his work is carried out, highlighting parts which had been silenced. The article ends by relating the acceptance of the supposed IndigenousJesuitical origin of the cateretê dance to the social and historiographical context which produced it.
