Am Reispiel von Gadolinium-Gallium-Granaten (Gd,Ga,O,,) wird die Praparation von hochwertigen Einkristall-Substratoberfltichen bei sproden Materialien beschrieben. Lappund Polierprozelj niit verschiedenen oxidischen und Diamantmaterialien auf textilen Unterlagen werden diskutiert. Ein mechano-chemisches Polierverfahren auf der Basis SiOJH,FO4 wird beschrieben. Der Storgrad der Substratoberflachen nach mechanischer und mechano-chemischer Politur wird mittels Rontgenbeugung und Selektivatzung untersucht. Die erhaltenen Ergebnisse werden im Rahmen eines Sprodbruch-Modells des Abtragmechanismus diskutiert.The preparation of single crystal substrates of gadolinium gallium garnet as a typical example of a brittle material is described. The mechanical polishing with iron oxide and diamond as well as a mechano-chemical polishing procedure basing on SiOdH,PO, are investigated. Working damage is investigated by X-ray topography, double crystal spectrometry and selective etching. Results are discussed in the frame of a brittle fracture model of the abrasion process.

Die theoretische und experimentelle Untersuchung der (311)‐Reflexion im Bragg‐Fall an einer ätzpolierten Siliziumscheibe mit CuKα1‐Strahlung ergibt, daß bei Einstrahlung im Bereich der spiegelnden Totalreflexion keine interferenzreflektierte Intensität auftritt. Durchläuft die geometrische Bragg‐Position einstrahlseitig den Grenzwinkel der Totalreflexion, so nähert sich der Einstrahlwinkel der maximal interferenzreflektierten Intensität bis zum Eintauchen des Kossel‐Kegels in die Kristalloberfläche dem Grenzwinkel der Total‐reflexion. Eine Beeinflussung des Grenzwinkels der Totalreflexion durch die Nähe eines Bragg‐Reflexes konnte nicht festgestellt werden.

Abstract: If X-rays are specular reflected on real surfaces it occurs a broadening of the incident X-ray beam. This broadening is a very sensitive and experimentally simple determinable value, with which it is possible to characterize the quality of light optical mirrors.
