Egyptian Myrtus communis L. Essential oil Potential role as invitro Antioxidant, Cytotoxic and α-amylase Inhibitor

Abstract: Myrtus communis L. (MC) family Myrtaceae, is cultivated in Egypt as an ornamental plant. The essential oil (EO) isolated from different parts of the plant reported for many pharmacological activities. Myrtus black and white (MB &MW) are two varieties of Myrtus diverse from each other in the color of berries; the EO was prepared from the fresh aerial parts of both varieties through hydrodistillation. The EO was screened for its free radicals scavenging activity by five different methods (DPPH, ABTS, NO, SOR, LP… Show more

“…As a result, people with Alzheimer’s disease must suppress both major forms of cholinesterase, AChE and BChE, in order to restore acetylcholine levels. In Alzheimer’s disease, inhibition of AChE plays a crucial role in increasing cholinergic transmission in the brain and lowering amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) aggregation and the generation of neurotoxic fibrils [ 35 ]. AChE protein consists of 531 amino acid residues with an ellipsoid shape.…”

“…The free radical scavenging ability of oil nanocapsules was tested by DPPH radical scavenging assay, as described by Ibrahim et al [ 24 ]. The ability of plant extractives to donate hydrogen atoms was determined by decolorizing a methanol solution of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH).…”

“…The DPPH assay was conducted following the procedure outlined by Ibrahim et al [36]. Firstly, the GF extracts and vitamin C were prepared in methanol at different concentrations (31.25-2000 µg/mL).…”

“…The assay operates on the principle of inducing the release of nitric oxide (NO) free radicals from sodium nitroprusside (SNP) within an aqueous solution. At physiological pH, SNP undergoes a transformation, yielding nitrite ions that are detectable using the Griess reagent, composed of 1% sulfanilamide in 5% ortho-phosphoric acid (H 3 PO 4 ) and 0.1% naphthylethylene diamine dihydrochloride [36]. The method was carried out as described by Ibrahim et al (2021).…”
