The purpose of the paper is to determine the degree of Polish companies’ maturity applying for Quality of the Year certification based on the EFQM excellence model. The study was conducted using a questionnaire (CAWI – computer assisted web interview). Company to get certified Quality of the Year had to get in the field of self-assessment carried out by the EFQM model at least 56%. Results and its analysis showed that among the 49 analyzed large companies seeking Quality of the Year certification only 3 achieved a value of 80% and above. Among the 10 companies selected for analysis only 3 has taken improvement actions. Based on the study carried out, the authors demonstrated that the analyzed companies that have been certified Quality of the Year are mature and conscious of quality, continuously improve, and apply modern techniques (traditional quality management tools, new quality management tools, quality management methods). The factors that determine the maturity and the awareness of the company in terms of quality are the elements included in the EFQM model (1. Leadership. 2. Vision, strategy, policy. 3. Human resources management. 4. Resource Management. 5. Process Management. 6. Customer satisfaction. 7. Employee satisfaction. 8. Cooperation with the environment. 9. Achievements companies in relation to the goals), as well as the awareness and the ability to use modern techniques.

RESUMO Introdução: Atualmente, e num contexto competitivo, as Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) dependem cada vez mais da qualidade dos seus serviços prestados, não só para satisfazer os seus diferentes stakeholders, como também, para atrair financiamento. Deste modo, as IES tendem a incorporar na sua estratégia, Sistemas Internos de Gestão da Qualidade (SIGQ), com vista a uma melhoria continua do seu desempenho. Este trabalho pretende analisar a aplicabilidade de uma IES, baseada no modelo da European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), através da sua implementação numa IES publica Portuguesa. Objetivos: Contribuir com uma análise critica da aplicabilidade de um SIGQ no desempenho organizacional de uma IES, baseado no modelo EFQM, e implementado numa IES publica. Métodos: Revisão bibliográfica da aplicabilidade de SIGQ's em IES, incluindo o modelo EFQM. Recurso a ao caso de estudo, análise documental e entrevistas com elementos intervenientes no estudo. Resultados: Foram obtidos um conjunto de vantagens e dificuldades. Para as dificuldades obtidas, foi proposto um conjunto de sugestões para a sua superação. Conclusões: A aplicação do SIGQ na IES em estudo, revelou-se proveitosa, devido a um conjunto de vantagens percepcionadas, entre as quais, o aumento da eficiência organizacional. Para cada uma das desvantagens identificadas no estudo, foi proposto um conjunto de soluções para a sua mitigação, permitindo deste modo, reforçar o potêncial de aplicaçao do modelo EFQM numa IES.

Models of excellence focusing on quality of production (goods and services) and the participation of all members of the organization can gain customer satisfaction and provide stakeholder interests and at the same time encouraging and promoting individual and organizational learning by relying on creativity and innovation. This study is investigated descriptively and data collection is done through field and questionnaire is used as data gathering tool. The statistical population, an urban water and sewage company employee in Guilan-Iran, who served on the company or uses its services and sample size is obtained 174 persons. Pearson correlation and regression is used to analyze hypotheses using software SPSS. The results of the analysis in part of enablers showed that there is a positive correlation between the leadership criterion and company performance. Also there is relatively high positive correlation between criteria of human resources and strategy with company performance. There is middle positive correlation between criteria of partnerships and resources and company performance. Also there is middle positive correlation between process criteria and company performance. Also in part of results is approved that there is middle positive correlation between criterion of customer results and company performance. There is middle positive correlation between criteria of human resources results and company performance. There is high positive correlation between criteria of society results and company performance. There is high positive correlation between criteria of key results and company performance.
