Show more

“…Nitrogen fertilization represents a high cost in forage production, and the use of botanical residues as fertilizer can be a way to reduce production costs. According to Castro et al (2016) experiments measuring the SPAD index demonstrated a higher nitrogen concentration in the leaf, indicating greater photosynthetic capacity and greater potential for the accumulation of sugar and nutrients in the plant tissue, in addition to promoting greater biomass. The application of castor residue provided a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the SPAD index as well as in the dry matter of Massai grass.…”

“…The composition of the manure used in the experiment is shown in Table 2. The amount of manure followed the recommendation of 20 to 40 t ha −1 of fresh manure by [30]. Doses of manure were chosen to provide 43.8, 30, and 15 g kg −1 of N with an 8, 11.7, and 23 C/N ratio, respectively.…”

“…The leaf dry mass was influenced by the different treatments, with the highest value recorded for the mineral nitrogen treatment, followed by the inoculation with the Unifenas strains 100-54 and 100-69. The Guinea grass requires a highly fertile soil and, therefore, responds well to the nitrogen fertilization (Castro et al 2016), justifying the high values recorded in the mineral nitrogen treatment.…”
