Efficacy of 2-Phenoxyethanol as an Anaesthetic for Adult Redline Torpedo Fish,Sahyadria denisonii(Day 1865)

Abstract: Efficacy of 2-phenoxyethanol for redline torpedo fish exposed to five concentrations (200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 lL −1 ) was evaluated. The time periods necessary for each characteristic stage of induction and recovery were recorded. Results indicated that the induction time of the fish exposed to five anaesthetic concentrations significantly ( < 0.05) decreased with increasing concentration but recovery time was independent of concentration. Concentration of 500 lL −1 (induction time: 173 ± 7 and recovery ti… Show more

“…In aquaculture, the use of anaesthetic reduces stress from handling and transportation, as well as when fish are marked, tagged and sampled for weight and length parameters and can sometimes lead to stock mortality. Some common anaesthetics used in fish include clove oil (Masoumeh and Masuomeh 2018), sodium bicarbonate (Altun et al 2009;Avillanosa et al 2019;Hasimuna et al 2019), benzocaine (Bolasina et al 2017), 2-phenoxyethanol (Varkey and Sajeevan 2014), tricaine methanesulfonate or MS-222 and qui-naldine (Ramlochnsingh et al 2014;Shokr and Fathy 2018).…”
