Efficacy and cost-effectiveness of Internet-based selective eating disorder prevention: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial within the ProHEAD Consortium

Abstract: BackgroundThe development of efficacious, cost-effective, and widely accessible programs for the prevention of eating disorders (EDs) is crucial in order to reduce the ED-related burden of illness. Programs using dissonance-based and cognitive behavioral approaches are most effective for the selective prevention of ED. Internet-based delivery is assumed to maximize the reach and impact of preventive efforts. However, the current evidence for Internet-based ED prevention is limited. “…Furthermore, the inclusion of new technologies in interventions is recommended. Trials from other world regions have already evaluated the efficacy of some of the preventive programs discussed in this review when delivered virtually (i.e., v‐Body Project; Ghaderi et al, 2020), and other protocols are under evaluation in European countries (Bauer et al, 2019; Bell et al, 2019; Nacke et al, 2019). Including new technologies in ED prevention programs (e.g., interventions delivered virtually) may help broadly disseminate these interventions.…”

“…Para la evaluación económica de la salud se evaluarán los datos sobre los costes de las intervenciones, la utilización de la atención médica y la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud. Este es el primer estudio que aumenta un enfoque de prevención flexible, como ProYouth, con módulos estructurados basados en pruebas para superar algunas de las limitaciones clave en la práctica actual de prevención de los TCA (30).…”
