“…Another recent study found that in family SMEs, the CEO or senior leader was largely responsible for shaping CSR practices in line with his or her own values (Laguir, Laguir, & Elbaz, ). This is consistent with findings from Abdullahi, Mohamed, Shamsudin, Sharifuddin, and Ali (), which shows that top leadership culture at SMEs is positively related to strategic sustainability orientation.…”

“…Nevertheless, development programmes are generally focused on women at the grass-root level (Al-Dajani et al, 2015) by overlooking middle-class women in small scale firms. While the small and medium enterprise sector plays a pivotal role in the development (Abdullahi et al, 2018;Higgs & Hill, 2019;Iqbal & Malik, 2019), the cohort of women in small ventures warrants attention by researchers. Given the differences in the class of women engaged in micro-level firms and small ventures as well as the extent of their businesses, the investigation into women in small businesses can provide insightful findings.…”

“…More interestingly,Steiner, Geissler, Schreder, and Zenk (2018) found the incongruence between the implicit and explicit attitude toward sustainable development principle. They further argued that majority of firms only pretend of being sustainability oriented for social desirability and reputation management.Organizational level (Meso)The prior literature on firms' sustainability orientation has largely emphasized that the internal drivers (e.g., resources, top management, and organizational culture) play a more crucial role than the external drivers in determining a firms' sustainability orientation (e.g.,Abdullahi, Mohamed, Shamsudin, Sharifuddin, & Ali, 2018;Emamisaleh & Rahmani, 2017;Obal, Morgan, & Joseph, 2020). The review of the extant literature suggests that previous studies have investigated the firm-level antecedent mostly from two theoretical perspectives, which are as follows: (a) resource-based view (RBV) and (b) upper echelon theory (UET).Drawing from the RBV perspective, firms' absorptive capacity(Aboelmaged & Hashem, 2019), entrepreneurial orientation (Amankwah-Amoah,Roxas, Ashill, & Chadee, 2017), and top management support and culture(Emamisaleh & Rahmani, 2017) drive a firm to orient toward sustainable development principles.…”

“…Others have drawn their focus on investigating its impacts on firm innovation adoption and innovation performance (e.g.,Aboelmaged & Hashem, 2019;Cheng, 2020;Loredo, Lopez-Mielgo, Pineiro-Villaverde, & García- Alvarez, 2019;Signori, Flint, & Golicic, 2017). Moreover, there is a plethora of empirical evidence that suggests the positive influence of sustainability orientation on sustainable entrepreneurial practices(Abdullahi et al, 2018;Ahmad, Rahman, Rajendran, & Halim, 2020;Hong, Jagani, Kim, & Youn, 2019;Muhammad Auwal et al, 2020;Shashi et al, 2018), and firm performance(Kautonen et al, 2020;Lei, Wu, & Fu, 2019;Muhammad Auwal et al, 2020;Shashi et al, 2018).…”
