Effects of Open Trench Dimension on Screening Effectiveness for High Speed Train Induced Vibration

Abstract: 2D boundary element method in time domain is used to investigate the screening effectiveness of open trenches on reducing vibration generated by a high speed train in this study. The parameter used in the study is the configurations of the trench. In order to evaluate the screening effectiveness of a wave barrier, a reduction of dB value is defined and used in this study. The maximum reduction of dB values is about 25 dB when an open trench is used as a wave barrier. The depth of open trench is a main influent… Show more

“…The research results of this paper are consistent with the existing research results on the vibration isolation performance of the damping ditch [22][23][24]. Various experimental results, theoretical analysis results and numerical simulation results show that the vibration isolation effect of the damping ditch mainly depends on the depth of the barrier.…”

“…With [3] studied the isolation effect of vibration isolation measures on far-field vibration caused by trains. Since then, scholars have analyzed the vibration isolation efficiency of empty trench and concrete infilled trench in the uniform half-space foundation [4][5][6][7][8][9], the layered half-space foundation [10][11][12][13][14][15], the homogeneous saturated foundation [16][17][18][19][20][21][22], and the layered saturated soil foundation under moving loads.…”

“…Gao et al [9] established 2.5D finite element model of train-track-ground-vibration countermeasures and analyzed the effectiveness of different vibration countermeasures including open trench, in-filled trench and concrete slab in isolating the ground vibrations induced by trains moving at sub-and high-speeds. Other researches in this area in recent years are carried out by Hildebrand [10], Yang et al [11], Jesmani et al [12], Tsai [13], and Zakeri et al [14]. In a recent study, Kim [15] studied the characteristics and the reduction methods of ground vibration due to the tilting train.…”
