Effects of extraction methods on structural characteristics and bile acid‐binding capacities of Moringa oleifera leaf polysaccharide fractions

Abstract: Summary There is an urgent need for safe and effective bile acid sequestrants from edible plants to treat hyperlipidaemia. Moringa oleifera leaf has been reported to be a source of hypolipidaemic agents. However, limited information is available on the bile acid‐binding capacity of M. oleifera leaf polysaccharide fraction (MOLPF). To illustrate structure‐bile acid‐binding capacity relationship of MOLPFs obtained by eight common extraction methods and provide an extraction technique for MOLPF with strong bile a… Show more

“…In addition, the low temperature and the short extraction time of UAE can avoid the degradation of anthocyanins caused by high temperature, which contributes to the improvement of the anthocyanin yield [ 10 ]. Thus, the UAE method is used in the extraction of bioactive compounds from different natural plant sources [ 11 , 12 , 13 ]. The combination of UAE and DESs extraction methods has the advantages of both methods, thereby providing effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to the traditional anthocyanin extraction methods.…”

“…Previously, polysaccharides extracted from loquat leaves exerted remarkable in vitro binding capacities for bile acids [ 64 ]. Moringa oleifera leaf polysaccharide fraction with the highest galactose content and a large proportion of linear macromolecules exhibited the strongest bile acid binding capacity with potential hypolipidemic effects [ 65 ].…”

“…Macroporous resin could separate polysaccharides with different ionic strengths. AB-8 and HP-20 showed better decolorization of MOPs ( Yang, Zhao, & Lin, 2020 ). Macroporous resin has good decolorization effect and polysaccharide retain high activity after decolorization.…”
