“…An important observation result of in the present study was that in both the cultivars, which showed significant decrease in As translocation in plants receiving As(V) by pretreatment with H 2 O 2 for 48 h. This is in agreement with the earlier studies where plants with exogenous application of H 2 O 2 or SA have ameliorated Cd toxicity (Guo et al 2007(Guo et al , 2009), where they have attributed this to SA-induced H 2 O 2 signaling in mediating Cd tolerance. Several studies have supported a major role of SA in modulating plant responses to abiotic stresses including heavy metal toxicity (Guo et al 2007;Janda et al 2012;Shi and Zhu 2008). The higher As level in the leaves of sensitive cultivar and the reverse in tolerant cultivar can be explained in the light of leaf GSH level.…”

“…Ferulic acid upregulated APX activity in the roots and shoots of wheat seedlings. In contrast to this, Shi and Zhu (2008) found decreased APX activity on application of SA in cucumber plants. Glutathione reductase (Chen et al 2011).…”

“…During the last years, SA has been intensively studied as a signal molecule mediating local and systemic defense responses against pathogens. Currently, it has been reported that this compound plays also a role in plants responses to abiotic stresses, such as drought, low and high temperatures, heavy metals, and osmotic stress (Janda et al, 1999;Rao and Davis 1999;Molina et al, 2002, Nemeth et al, 2002Munne-Bosch and Peñuelas 2003;Shi et al, 2008;Rivas-San Vicente and Plasencia 2011). SA was also shown to influence a number of physiological processes, including seed germination, seedling growth, fruit ripening, flowering, ion uptake and transport, photosynthesis rate, stomata conductance, biogenesis of chloroplast (Fariduddin et al, 2003;Khodary 2004;Hayat et al, 2005;Shakirova 2007).…”
