Effectiveness of some novel heterocyclic compounds as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in 1 M HCl using practical and theoretical methods

Abstract: Corrosion of carbon steel is a major problem that destroys assists of industries and world steel installations; the importance of this work is to introduce new heterocyclic compounds as effective and low-cost corrosion inhibitors.

“…The E corr value was enhanced for C-steel in the SPRE-containing solution, consolidating the predominant anodic inhibition effect. 34 Noteworthily, the E corr value equilibrated in around −0.472 V (800 mg L −1 of SPRE), which has a difference smaller than 85 mV compared to that for the uninhibited control (−0.513 V). Therefore, SPRE can be categorized as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor with a dominant anodic effect for C-steel in HCl medium.…”

“…, physisorption). 34 Although the electrostatic interaction between SPRE and the C-steel surface results in rapid corrosion mitigation, the adsorption strength of partial molecules may be unsatisfactory. This explains the desorption behavior of SPRE at high temperatures observed in the weight loss, electrochemical and thermodynamic analyses.…”

“…The scanning electron microscopy also revealed a protective layer formed on the mild steel surface in a 1.0 M HCl environment for both inhibitors. In another study by Fouda et al [45], three newly compounds of carbohydrazide derivatives, namely: 5-amino-N -((2-methoxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)isoxazole-4-carbohydrazide (H4), 2,4-diamino-N -((2-methoxy-naphthalene-1-yl)methylene)pyrimidine-5-carbohydrazide (H5), and N -((2-methoxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)-7,7-dimethyl-2,5-dioxo-4a,5,6,7,8,8a-hexah ydro-2H-chromene-3-carbohydrazide (H6) were also examined to study the efficiency of the new corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel application in 1.0 M HCl solution. The same method analysis was used to detect the corrosion efficiency as previously.…”

“…An in-depth study on the electronic properties and behavior of organic corrosion inhibitor in protecting metal surfaces alongside experimental procedures produces a crucial understanding on the corrosion inhibition mechanism. Fouda et al [45], examined the inhibition efficiency of three compounds of carbohydrazide derivatives (H4, H5, and H6) on carbon steel in 1.0 M HCl experimentally and theoretically. The substituents of the inhibitor molecules were varied with different electron-donating atoms (N, O) and groups (CH 3 , OH).…”
