Diabetic foot ulcers are the fastest growing chronic complications of diabetes mellitus, unmanaged diabetic complications such as diabetic foot ulcers will have a negative impact on the quality of life of individuals, health education, information and communication about DFUand foot care needs to be improved. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of foot care education on knowledge of diabetic ulcer risk prevention in people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Mutiara Barat Health Center, Pidie Regency. This type of research is quasi-experimental research. The population in this study were all diabetes mellitus sufferers in the working area of the Mutiara Barat Health Center, Pidie Regency, in the last 1 month as many as 63 patients. Sampling was done purposive sampling technique as many as 25 people. The results showed that there was an effect of foot care education on knowledge of diabetic ulcer risk prevention in people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Mutiara Barat Health Center, Pidie Regency, which obtained a significance value of ρ = 0.001 where ρ <0.05. Health education provides moderate to moderate knowledge in helping diabetes mellitus patients to increase their knowledge about diabetic foot ulcer prevention. It is hoped that good knowledge will raise awareness, will and strength, so that it can change the behavior of diabetes mellitus patients into adaptive behavior that can prevent diabetic ulcers from occurring.

In 2017, Indonesia was ranked sixth in the top ten countries with the highest diabetes cases. The prevalence is expected to continue increasing. The use of Smartphone applications is one of the alternative methods in promoting better disease management and preventing diabetes. The purpose of this review is to identify existing studies regarding Smartphone applications for diabetes in Indonesia and to highlight the important findings. There are only a few original clinical studies about Smartphone applications for diabetes in Indonesia. A total of 5 studies were reviewed here. There are the Nutri Diabetic Care, the Teman DM, the DM Calendar App, the E-diary DM, and the Salam Sehat. The study was conducted on several respondents with the use of short-term applications and using the variable method. Nevertheless, the studies found that Smartphone applications for diabetes can be beneficial for improving self-care, self-efficacy, increased knowledge, and medication and diet compliance among diabetic patients in Indonesia. The information and utility criteria for diabetes application which should be relevant to clinical guidelines are not discussed. The implementation of Smartphone applications for diabetes is suitable for Indonesian condition. The best application with the right information, utility, and supported by clinical studies is suggested as a complement to the diabetes management by a health professional.

Background: Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is a microvascular complication that commonly occurs in people with diabetes mellitus. Geriatrics with type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the populations most vulnerable to this complication. An epidemiological study states that geriatrics has a 32% greater risk of developing this complication compared to other age groups. There have not been many studies conducted to evaluate the risk factors that influence this DPN complication, so it needs to be done an individual evaluation for the elderly population. Objective: This study aims to explore the risk factors that influence the incidence of DPN in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A case-control study design was carried out on 70 geriatrics with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The outcome determined was the incidence of DPN to track the cause of DPN exposure retrospectively. Influential risk factors are determined by the Odds Ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). All statistical analyzes were two-tailed, and p-values <0.05 were considered as statistically significant. Results: Seven factors influence the incidence of DPN in the elderly consisting of smoking history (OR=13.1), uncontrolled lipid profile (OR=5.1), non-neuroprotector users (OR=5.6), uncontrolled blood glucose (OR=42.7), history of heart disease (OR=9.0), uncontrolled blood pressure (OR=4.3), and BMI above normal (OR=5.1). Conclusion: Strong recommendation for medical personnel to focus attention on seven significant risk factors affected complications of DPN to reduce its progression or prevent upcoming complications.
