Effect of "Pleurotus tuber-regium" Polysaccharides Supplementation on the Progression of Diabetes Complications in Obese-Diabetic Rats

Abstract: In this study, the effect of mushroom extracellular polysaccharides on fatty acid composition and liver peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-α) expression in obese-diabetic rats was investigated, and distinguished the association among anti-obesity, hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic properties. Extracellular polysaccharides from three different strains of Pleurotus tuber-regium were extracted and labeled as HP (high-percentage), MP (medium-percentage) and LP (low-percentage). Obese- diabetes (OD… Show more

“…Our findings of dyslipidemic markers (Table 4) come in agreement with most previous investigations except for HDL-C results, as most authors reported HDL-C to decrease in liver injury (Huang et al, 2014;Kang & Koppula, 2015;Szkudelska et al, 2009). Alternatively, a recent research agrees with our result based on the fact that HDL-C can be stimulated in response to high TNF-a level (Martius et al, 2014).…”

“…In a recent study, polysaccharides isolated from Pleurotus tuber-regium was shown to decrease body weights from week 4 and continued to week 8 in high-fat diet-induced increased body weight of diabetic rats. But body weights in polysaccharides supplemented groups approached to normal control animals [ 24 ]. Thus, EPA per se may have no effect on body weight and daily food intake of health-rats.…”

“…Obesity and abnormal lipid metabolism are common complications of DM. Extracellular polysaccharides from Pleurotus tuber maintain a stable fatty acid composition and regulate hyperlipidemia and obesity by upregulating the levels of hepatic PPAR-a mRNA and protein and exerting antihyperglycemic properties (Huang et al, 2014). Tremella aurantialba mycelia polysaccharides regulate lipid metabolism and decrease OS in alloxan-induced diabetic rats (Zhang et al, 2009).…”
