Effect of Physical Exercise on some Hematological Parameters in Female Athletes in Bangladesh

Abstract: Introduction:  Long term physical training has been considered to adversely affect the performance of athletes especially the females. It may be due to the iron depletion caused by hemolysis or hemodilution results from plasma volume expansion. This study aims to assess the effect of heavy exercise on hemoglobin concentration and some other hematological parameters in female athletes. Methods: This cross sectional study was carried out in the Department of physiology, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, from J… Show more

“…Besides, there was no significant difference in RBC count between female AG and AAA. This is in contrast to a study that revealed female runners had a significantly lower RBC count than cyclists [ 48 ]. This difference might be due to variation in the discipline of sports they specialized for (running and cycling).…”

“…Increasing demand for oxygen in the contracting muscle led to bulk blood flow into exercised muscle tissue to maintain a sufficient oxygen level [34]. Therefore, decreasing haemoglobin was observed after exercise [35]. This study resulted in the improvement of haemoglobin levels in the treatment group compared to the control group.…”

“…Heinicke et al (2001) also reported an inverse correlation between hematocrit and training status in elite athletes, in which the more trained the athletes, the lower the hematocrit. A study by Alam et al (2014) demonstrated that intense exercise could reduce the hemoglobin concentration and red blood cells volume significantly compared to the control group. Regarding the effect of type of exercise on blood profile, an investigation by Çiçek (2018) found hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cells reduced significantly after strength training compared to aerobic training.…”
