Effect of Particle Size on Electro-Optic Properties of Liquid Crystal Devices Doped with γ-Cyclodextrin Stabilized Barium Titanate Nanoparticles

Abstract: Barium titanate stabilized by γ -cyclodextrin nanoparticles were prepared by using a microwave reactor equipped with ultrasonic nozzle mixing at 240 • C in a tetraethylene glycol solution of barium ethoxide and titanium ethoxide in the presence of γ -cyclodextrin. Particles in γ -cyclodextrin-stabilized BaTiO 3 nanoparticles had an average diameter of 2.1 nm and mainly distributed within the range of about 1 to 4 nm. The γ -cyclodextrinstabilized BaTiO 3 nanoparticles were mixed with 4-cyano-4 -pentylbiphenyl … Show more

“…The definite number of hydroxyl groups, according to the number of glucose units, makes it possible to establish strong interactions with certain polymeric matrices. One of the few applications of CDs with ceramic nanoparticles as TiO 2 and BT has to do with the stabilization of nanocrystals and nanoparticles in their hydrothermal-synthesis steps to provide a shell for the nanocrystals to grow, allowing the sizes to be be precisely controlled (2-10 nm) and therefore a better stabilization as the aggregation is supressed (Li et al 2006;Sun et al 2008;Shiraishi et al 2015).…”
