Effect Of Nano Sized Transition Metal Salts And Metals On Thermal decomposition Behavior Of Polyvinyl Alcohol

Abstract: A number of nanocomposites have been synthesized biomimetically by embedding various transition metal salts in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the preorganised matrix. The metal salts were reduced to metallic form using aqueous sodium borohydride solution. In the present paper, very comprehensive studies on thermal decomposition behavior of these composites have been carried out using thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric studies. The transition metal salts/ metals based composites exhibit increa… Show more

“…PVA is a potential material having high dielectric strength and it has carbon chain backbone with hydroxyl groups (OH) attached to methane carbons. These OH groups can be a source of hydrogen bonding and hence assist the formation of polymer composite [5]. The existence of strong intermolecular and intramolecular hydrogen bonding in PVA was confirmed from the FTIR analysis, due to the presence of OH groups [6].…”

“…The disintegration of such a step was caused by the further decomposition of polymer structure which subsequently undergoes decomposition resulting in the formation of carbonaceous matter and remains constant giving the plateau approach in the TGA curve. 39…”

“…This increment became pronounced with the inclusion of 21 wt % Cu‐Al 2 O 3 loading exhibiting T g up to 140°C. It is known that polar polymers show more affiliation towards conducting fillers . The interaction of metal (Cu deposited on Al 2 O 3 ) with the PMMA block might be responsible for this shift of T g towards higher side.…”
